Hi,

There was a thread a week or so ago (which I can`t find) which discussed a problem with corrosion around a through hull. It showed the fitting as being green with verdigris.

My question is not about the cause, in this case I think the consensus was poor electrical bonding, but how do you get the green stuff off - is there a chemical/product that dissolves it, preferably one that doesn`t require wearing of a full HAZMAT suit:)

Don't bother. Verdigris is a very thin film of copper sulfate that doesn't affect the strength of the fitting at all. Bronze statues have lasted for many centuries with this film and most admire its looks.

Don't mistake patina for verdigris, a common term we use to describe corrosion around the stuffing box for example.

If I see crusty mounds of green corrosion, I use a brass wire brush to beat it back.
If I see green coloration on top of the brown patina I ignore it. it is a protective layer that will slow down corrosion.
