The KK42's came equipped with bronze mesh screens for the port lights. Does anyone know of a supplier for custom made screens? I'd like to put bronze screens on the rear port lights in the Pilothouse to keep the cat from escaping. Bronze would be cat-claw proof.

Jim, I can't help you with the custom screens but I can confirm that bronze screen is cat resistant. I have a screened porch at home that I like to let the cats on. The cats were barely slowed by fiberglass screen. Switched to bronze and no more escapes.

Jim: Call New Found Metals with your dimensions. I think they make SS replacement for the bronze. The SS isn't bronze but it would stop the cats and would probably look OK.

Also, maybe call Krogen in Stuart, FL. I've called them before and they have offered to have stuff made overseas for Hobo.

If you can borrow a propane torch its quicker to make your own,

Purchase 1/8 inch copper tubing , heavier if your cat is really big.

Bend it to fit the inside of the port nice and snug.

Place it on a flat surface and lightly hammer it flat.

It will grow from hammering so trim again.Clean the ring with scotch brite or fine sand paper.

Solder copper screen from the hardware store with the borrowed torch.

Radio solder usually has flux in it to ease the job

Trim off the excess screening and lightly file the ring to remove stray screen.

Done,,,, Creating a dozen at a time takes little more effort or time

Bigger ports like a 12 or 14 round will use thicker copper tubing .

Great suggestion, FF! I can do that. Sure, the bendable copper tubing as a frame. I've got a torch at home for various plumbing jobs. The project will have to wait until I get back.

"The project will have to wait until I get back."

Making it neat soldered and one piece can wait.

Just the bent tubing will hold the screen pushed in place.

In Canada the small bugs can remove a finger!

The larger ones can carry off a small dog!

Do it now! get neat later.
