Bent prop

Well we were in the Erie canal ready for lock 9. The lock doors opened and there was a tree 3/4 across the entrance. I hit neutral and tried to coast over/around it. After coasting half way through the lock, thinking we are clear I hit port in reverse to slide to the wall. Then I heard the CLUNK!. I guess I didnt clear it all. After the lock we have vibrations on port. We took it easy to Brewerton over the next few day and limited the RPM to 1200. I prayed for just bent prop and not shaft problems and luckily that's the way it turned out. The canal has a lot of debris due to heavy rains and now today they just shut it down due to high water. We will be in Brewerton until the canal opens.

Saw your post on MTOA I was wondering how you made out. Glad it was just the prop. Hopefully you're now done with these issues.

Be careful, there's a 100 foot tree westbound across Oneida lake. I think it's following you. It wants the rest of your props. Where did you guys end up staying? Ess Kay?

Glad it wasn't anything worse...Bent/damaged shaft could ruin your day! So, all the bad luck is out of the way, and it's a pleasure cruise from here on out. Fingers crossed for ya!

Assuming you are having the Brewerton yard take care of prop but...
I have had great experience w/ a prop shop in Newburgh if you need contact info.
He rebuilt these duo-props that were turned inside-out and had them looking like new... I'd love to observe him sometime.
I am committed to him now and wouldn't think of using another shop.

We damaged our props pretty badly on the Hudson River a couple weeks ago and used that same prop shop mentioned above, in Newburgh, NY. They did a fantastic job and now they look all shiny and brand new.
