I haven't seen this issue discussed before. When I return to the boat after a couple of weeks and flush the toilet, a holding tank odor comes out at the same time it flushes. It only does this the first flush and it is fine until I leave it for a couple weeks. The vacuum holds and the water stays in the bowl while I am away. This is a new issue for me; It has not previously done this. I put a new (non-Sealand) vent filter on this fall. Could it be that causing it? Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds more like the water in the water flush line is going sour.

Or perhaps the duck bill valves are allowing gas to come back up into the head.

You aren't putting enough flush water through the system to rinse out the waste the suction has splattered all over the inside of the hoses, the vacuum tank and vacuum pump with each flush. It's "festering" in the system while you're away from the boat.

The flush water flow isn't robust enough to fill the hose, so it's a good idea to flush at least a half a bowl of clean water through it each day...and a full bowl last thing before the boat will sit. That should solve your problem.

Thank you for the response. I'll see if that fixes the problem.
