I'm wanting to replumb my generator seacock so it's easier to winterize the generator . Can I mix brass and bronze plumbing fittings? I'm in fresh water and can't find everything I need in bronze and don't want to use plastic . The seacock is bronze.

In freshwater, you should be fine mixing metals. It's in salt that it's important to stick with bronze for plumbing.

Marty brass has zinc in it's make up and will not be as safe to use as bronze. If it is routine for you to close the sea cock when not using the generator I would say go for it and make it a must to check the brass fitting for corrosion often. Try to find the brass fitting at a plumbing supply business vs the big box stores where the brass may come from China.

Thanks for all the info .:thumb::thumb:

The old big fear of brass was for the use of Brass household valves.

To make them cheap and fast "free machining brass" was used in creating the stem that opens and closes the valve.

Thin to begin with and with lots of surface area from the threads cut in , they dont last very long.
