Summer Homes
We just moved out boat about 60 miles from Alameda, Ca. *to Pittsburg, Ca*to get alittle closer to the warm days and warmer waters*in the California Delta. The winter was really nice in the* SF Bay. Blue skies and generally nicer weather. But unless you are in a blow boat the Bay is much less fun in the summer once the clouds come in and the wind picks up.
*
Just wondering how many folks relocate their boats by the seasons ? Or do most folks just boat close to home except for a week or two ? I'm looking at staying up this way till October. Makes for a nice long summer season.

Every one with a need probably does.
WE always went into a bay or river for the NYC winters , and to a more open location to gain the summer breezes.

We stay in Boston right through the winter. The marina has good protection and the view is awesome!

RE: Summer Homes
Mark and Cindy,
We are leaving Thursday to move our girl from the "permanent" slip on the North Shore of Lake Ponchatrain in Louisiana to a slip for the summer on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the town of Biloxi. There are some nice barrier islands about 10 miles off shore that are within a couple of hours run. There is also a Wooden Boat Festival, a Billfish Tournament and "Smokin' the Coast" (powerboat racing) happening soon.
Currently it takes about an hour to get to the slip, Biloxi will take about 2.5 hours. We have talked about keeping two slips permanently. Biloxi is more summer FUN, but Madisonville is close enough for regular boat maintenance. And the preferred HURRICANE HOLE!! Pittsburg sounds like a great place!

*Steve, the river at Madisonville is beautiful, and the food is superb.* I can see why you keep a boat there.* The nice beaches at Horn and Cat Islands are great for anchoring up and spending a weekend.* You are also near the Chanlieur Islands which is other worldy and has great fishing.* The great fishing around the oil rigs in ghe Gulf is within reach.* Then you have the restaurants and* casinos around Long Beach and Biloxi.* It is a great place for boating.

RE: Summer Homes
Don,
You have OBVIOUSLY spent some time in this area . We have never made it to Horn but I hear from others who have how nice it is. If the weather cooperates we hope to spend some time there Saturday. Aren't you about to take a trip yourself?

*We hope to leave SW FL for the Chesapeake Bay next weekend.
Steve, Horn Island is really nice.* Throw the hook out on Sound side in about 5' of water (low tide), and swim or dinghy ashore.* It can be a very crowded place on the weekends.* You should have some great fun in that area.* Oh, did I mention the fishing is really good?

*There is a fitting under the chair to fit the pedestal stand at the helm.* It swivels, reclines and when offshore with the autopilot on and the radar alarm set, it sleeps quite well.* CAN"T BE TOO CAREFUL YOU KNOW

I am so glad to hear you are doing this as I want to know how it goes.* I think my husband is going to put off our grand adventure of shipping our boat back East for the Great Loop for a few years (he is worried about his mom's health) so I told him just the other day that I want to leave our boat on the Delta next summer.* I am not sure WHERE.* I am really interested to hear how you like Pittsburgh and how hot it is.* We really love our marina and all our buddies there but I sure like the idea of a getaway and the wind gets way old.* Even when we had a sailboat we got sick of the wind.* We'll be cruising into Pittsburg in July and will look for you.

RE: Summer Homes
Liquid,
If you don't mind me asking, which marina are you in?* We used to put into the Waterboat Marina pre-4th of July when we'd head up into the Charles, and recently stayed on a houseboat over in Charlestown.

RE: Summer Homes
I just bought a boat out of oyster point, I will be moving it back to the delta soon as i get it up to speck. Do you like pittsburg? Better weather than the city, if your really looking for warmer weather move it out near Brentwood, Theres a big difference there in heat.
