Where am I gonna put all this stuff?
Fear not most boats can easily eat a few truck loads of "stuff".
When we partially emptied our 33ft 90/90 it totally filled a small bed room!
Have fun , but use a list to locate the "maybe I can use this later" stuff.

Moving from a 3500 square foot house to a 32 foot pleasure boat years ago. I can relate.
Be aware that the stuff you brought on board will be added to or repaced in short order.
Whats that sayin sh happens or in my case stuff happens. Creative shelving along with air movement in said storage areas helps.
But enjoy this life choice.

Congrats and welcome to your new life. We made the move in May of 2010. We found that a lot of the stuff we thought we would need was only taking up space.
We first moved onto our 3218 Bayliner for a little over a year. Then moved up to our 4588 Bayliner. Difference in room like going from a cab over camper to a double wide motor home. At least that is how it felt to us.

Hi KJ,
Bravo! My wife and I move on board on 9 March 2013. In the meantime, we are sorting copious clobber we seem to have accumulated over the years and trying to think what to do with it. Auctions, car boot (trunk?) sales, charity shops, give aways...but keeping the family heirlooms.
Can't wait. Endless opportunities await us.
BTW, we are based in the Channel Islands off the west coast of Normandy (France). We'll be cruising south towards Spain, and north to the Baltic and Norway.

Thanks. Everything is going well.
At first, I was like a "deer in the headlights" when I realized how much stuff I had brought aboard. After a couple of days though, I was amazed at how much "stuff" the boat had gobbled up. There is actually quite a bit unused storage space left, which is a good thing because my brother-in-law and nephew have informed me that they are going to store their dive gear on my boat -- permanently.
Fortunately, my sister in NJ has a large basement where she is graciously allowing me to store as much stuff as I want, and my nephew owns a ranch, also in NJ, where he is allowing me to store my car in one of the empty sheds.
I'm currently docked at the Barefoot Marina, N Myrtle Beach, SC.
It's a pretty nice facility, with all the usual amenities. My only complaint would be that the WiFi sucks.
I'll be here at least till 12/10. I might stay a little longer and move south after the holidays. I still have a lot to do, like pulling up the funky, old carpet, and restoring the original parquet floor. I'll have to look in the archives as I know there was a pretty good discussion about that subject here not too long ago.
My first stop will be either Beaufort (Bew-fort, not Bow-fort), or Charleston.
I would like to get a quote on replacing some salon windows. I would appreciate any recommendations for suppliers along the SC, GA, FL coasts.
It's been really nice to sit out on the sundeck in the evening (all bundled up) with a hot tea and watch the last few boats on the waterway heading in for the night. I met some folks from two 46ft sailboats that were heading to Stuart, FL and then to West End, Grand Bahama Is. -- for the winter.

Part of living aboard is continuously purging "stuff" off the boat. Things multiply in the dark like t-shirts, cups, gadgets, etc. Lots of folks want to gift you items that are totally useless on the boat.

We moved from a 1200 sq' home to a 30' RV trailer last summer to a 47' pilothouse trawler a couple of days ago!!!
My best tidbit; take photos of the treasures you don't have room for, most of the time a person pulls them out and looks at them a couple of times a year anyways so just pull out the photos (perhaps a digital frame) even more often than twice a year and still enjoy them without having to store and care for them!
We moved on board a few days ago and things are settling into place. The hardest thing will be remembering that 'perfect' spot I put something so I would be able to find it again, already went through that this evening

AS you travel there will be loads of local boating mags at marinas.
There you will find custom window makers if you need replacements.
When you get to Fl, FL Mariner and other local mags will have a bunch of sources.
