Another very cool system of changing levels is the Anderton Lift on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Built in the late 1800s, this lift is still in operation moving boats between the canal and the River Weavers. We've been by this several times in the narrowboat over the years but never used it. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/Anderton-boat-lift

I thought the most impressive lock I'd ever seen was the Big Chute. This is way better!!

We visited the Falkirk Wheel when we were in Scotland this past September. Pretty amazing, was even aided by the American Society of Civil Engineers. We were chatting with one of the folks running the thing and found out that canal has a 12' beam limit so no way one of our boats would make it through.
