I bet computing the weight ratio relative to thirty years ago would be interesting
 
I was surprised it capsized frontwards instead of sideways.

It's a huge amount of sail area for a 13000 pound boat so they are very sensitive to pitchpoling when running downwind. I'm no expert but I'd guess they didn't have enough tension on the backstay to flex the mast and give extra lift on the bow.

I just compared it to my boat. Same weight and 21 times as much sail area.

Have never trusted the stability of racing catamarans. :eek:
 
Luckily for NZ the racing was called off today due to high winds so they have another day to work on their fixes.

Still should be interesting if they can bring her back.
