Who else reads manuals?

No disagreement there. Many consumer manuals are barely understandable. In college (Aeronautical Technology), we were taught technical writing and had to produce intelligible, succinct and accurate procedures and operations manuals. That course has stuck with me over the years and causes me to be critical of much of the technical writing I encounter in the world.

Technical Writing probably also contributes to my relative brevity and economy in the written word. Air Traffic Control caused me to learn to speak effectively and efficiently. Some habits are hard to break.
