They have been sprayed, hopefully we will get a good frost this winter and the problem will go away. This could be anywhere on the loop as well. The feral pigs on the islands on the San Joaquin are swimming out and eating it. Maybe we need more pigs.

Known as the American Hippo bill, H.R. 23621 around 1910

Believe it or not this bill was introduced voted on and only lost by one vote. The idea was to introduce African Hippos to the Louisiana delta to control water hyacinth. I guess at the time there was a meat shortage and the thought was to kill two birds at once. Can you imagine one of the most dangerous African animals swimming in your fishing hole.

Just imagine hitting one of these beasts at 20 knots!

I like the feral pig solution better.

It could be Ladd's. We're in Riverpoint Landing, next door, and are socked in. It seems to shift day by day but is still here.

Greetings,
Mr. Scary. I think hippos are a wonderful idea. Probably control the gators and the jet skis as well. As far as being dangerous...Awww.....

I've no fear of hippos thanks to a steel hull.

Lots of empty berths in Vallejo, clear of vegetation.

I just spoke with a rep in CA Delta's Hyacinth removal division. Spraying was curtailed early in 2014 due to lack of available herbicides. This year plenty seems to be available. Legally set spray dates reach from March 1st to November 1st. Boats are ready to begin on the start date.

Reason for dates mentioned is due to poisoning of sea-life. According to the rep there have been no accounts of human sickness due to swimming/skiing.

Looks like 8 mile road. I used to live there and hated it during bass fishing. No problem here in Oceanside.

Herman & Helen's at the end of 8 Mile Rd used to get hopping with bass boats and the odd tournament out but the last I heard they've went under.

Biological control is actually simple if not a bit cruel. Koi. Simply put Koi in the pond, river etc and they eat the hyacinth roots. They multiply like crazy and devour the entire hyacinth patch rapidly and kill it off. The cruel part is after the hyacinth is dead, the koi starve to death.
