Refurbishing Lazarette and engine room

I have a 34 foot Defever built in 1974 in Costa Mesa, CA. She is powered by a single 120hp Ford Lehman diesel. The framing that supports the batteries and water tanks needs to be replaced. In the lazarette there are two vertical 2X4 supports just aft of the water tanks, do these serve as deck supports and/or framing supports for the water tanks?
