The big news (to me, anyway) is going to a 5-year renewal on recreational documentation.

I'd heard this, but no details about how or when.

I hope I'm not the only one who sees the sad irony in the fact that the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2017 was not approved until 2018 was very nearly over and done with!

Keep in mind it hasn't yet cleared the house and then must be signed and not vetoed. So, don't bet on it passing in 2018. Maybe 2019.
