I use to play around with scale models, still have a WWII DE and Ticonderoga class that are asking to be built, both 1:96.

I missed out on a NT 26 model in fiberglass on Craigslist a few back. Really mad at myself for that one.

Those Captain's models are absolutely fantastic. The attention to detail on those things is beyond remarkable. They used to make a Nordhavn 46 that I wanted badly. It's the only way I'd ever be able to afford an N46... They are quite expensive, though.

I've always loved scale models. I used to build static kits all the time when I was a kid. I did the Lusitania, Queen Mary, Titanic probably 5 times, and a bunch of others. I worked as an assistant curator at a maritime museum for a few years too, where I did a lot of maintenance and repair of the display models.

I built a little RC cargo ship kit a few years back. It's very basic, but I learned a lot. Of course, I didn't have much choice, as the directions were in German. I always wanted to do that when I was a kid, but couldn't ever come up with the money for it.

I've been thinking about scratch building a classic ocean liner like the Ile De France or maybe Rex. Maybe someday I'll even get around to it.

Built this 1/12-scale Radio Control Trojan 31 for my Dad a few years back. Spent my childhood summers aboard the real "Lady K". The model has twin electric motors that are controlled independently to allow life-like handling.

..of course, I also built myself a fully radio-controlled 1/12-scale Great Harbour N37! Twin, fully-independent electric motors with diesel sound generator, huge twin rudders and bow thruster make for realistic boat handling. Also has nav lights, water pumping out of the "exhausts", and a turning radar array. The last pic is the official Great Harbour "fleet" - left to right front: GH37, N37 (no flybridge), N37 (flybridge), N47 (flybridge), and in back the immense GH74 (same scale, believe it or not.)

Oliver, you're to old now to play with model boats. You'll be ready again in about fifty years.

You guys do know that for all the time you put into building the models, you could build a boat big enough to ride in. It won't be as pretty as the models. Nice work.

Wow, Eric. Those Great Harbour models are really something.

A couple of years ago, there was an estate sale of this one-off Manatee Model built by Captain's. After posting a photo on the old Krogen site, the model was quickly secured by the owner of the original Manatee it was fashioned after. I never heard any details how the original boat and the model built for it got separated.

If anyone is interested in building an N37 model, Ken has molds for the major fiberglass pieces (hull, deck, house, house roof.) Pretty sure he can be persuaded to sell a set or two...

I could probably look into that, Eric. Might be my only chance to own an N-series.

BTW. Just to set the record straight: I built the N37 model "Yellow Fin" and the N47 model "Spoonbill/Chimera" with the two Mirage Flats Boats on the bow. The other N37s and the GH37 were built by a couple of VERY talented modelers from Ocala, Florida. These retired guys also built the interior for the amazing 1/12-scale GH74 - however, most of this giant boat was built by Great Harbour's own master carpenter, Paul Wager (seen in the last photo.)

I have just got it running and stuck on some vinyl windows for now!
