Tollycraft 40' Tricabin

As I search for trawler to replace our wooden "Spindrift" a boat that's been recommeded is a Tollycraft. The 40' tricabin have many of the features wanted. However, most located on the west coast. Does anyone have one of these within a 3 hour drive of Portland, Maine? If so and don't mind taking a half hour or to show the wife and I aboard and share your experiences. Thanks!

You in Sherman Point - or - the main harbor? At Wayfarers or on a buoy? I know Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Belfast, Lincolnville WELL... from back in the late 60's to mid 70's that is!

Good luck locating a Tolly of any size in that area. Mine is a 34' Tolly tri cabin. Little Sister to the 40' Tolly tri. Tolly is a really good boat!

The Tolly 44 is the 40 with a cockpit. Go to yacht world and you'll find a few on the East Coast.

Tollycraft 40 tricabin

Hi Art, I'm the guy you've been emailing with from Maine. I have a mooring off Laites Beach in Camden. Had a the furthest inner harbor float until my Dad passed away. Can't will float positions unless you're a commercial fisherman. So, I'm now 12th on the waiting list. The floats allow up to 42' loa so I need to stay 40' or under to allow for pulpit and/or swim platform. So the 44 cockpit would be too long.

The 40s that I've seen have transom door to aft cockpit then a door going straight into the aft cabin (dog & gear transfer friendly) Also they have walk around decks, doors out each side of main cabin (although the port door is behind the dinette & maybe more of a sliding window) which are important to me for access to deck from lower station (similar to our old Spindrift). Also, because I handle the boat alone often.

We typically cruise around 8 knots so planing isn't really important. Nice to have extra speed if out running some weather but other than that we a more leisure cruisers.

PBC - You ought to look into Tolly 34' tri cabin. Hot shat boats!

- Roomy, comfortable as all get out with GREAT ER access hatched inside salon,
- Handle great,
- Easy to dock (and find dock space for),
- Inexpensive at or below 7.5 knots w/ twin 350 cid / 255 hp gassers = 2 +/- nmpg.
- Run one screw 5.5 to 6 knots = 3 +/- nmpg.
- Cruise 16/17 knots = 1 nmpg. 22+/- knots at WOT = OMG nmpg - lol

There may be a couple in New England. Look on Yachtworld and maybe call around to a few well connected boat brokers. Craigslist too!
