RE: There are going to be some spectacular boats around Penboscot Bay this week!
My grandfather used to run a steamer from Castine to Belfast carrying freight, passengers, and mail. His boat was the GoldenRod. I've tried to research her, but there's not much available other than a few old postcards showing her tied up to the pier in Castine.
My grandmother was the postmaster in Castine, and we used to spend a lot of time there. One of the events I remember attending was the Retired Skippers Race, which would actually garner TV coverage from Bud Levitt. You had to be over 65 to enter, and there used to be some beautiful boats that would come to that race.
Wish we were free this weekend, we'd certainly head up for that.
