Tach sender

Hello fellow TFers.
On my beloved boat I have 2 tachs, one takes its input from the alternator the other one fro a mechanical input.
Below are two pics of the mechanical sender:



From what I found this one is taking its input fro mechanical take-off.
Looking at it to redo its connection using an automotive waterproof plug I found out that it is not screwed tight between its parts.
So my question(s) is (are):
Is it a mechanical take off or a magnetic pick-up? I would vote for a mechanical take-off as it is grounded to the engine block and if I am right a magnetic pick-up should not be.
Should it be tighten? I mean that it is loose on it screw (two parts are screwed, one fitting on the block, one part on the fitting and the sender on this part. Should these 3 part screwed tight?
I just would like to get it installed adequately

What? Nobody ever seen a tack sender like this? Don't tell me my setup is too old!

It looks like a std mechanical drive.

Think speedometer in a 50's car , same goodies.

A new inner drive cable can be had , they just squeeze on the square ends.

The inner drive cable can be removed and lubricated .

A new entire cable should be EZ to order from an advertiser in Hemmings.

Thank you FF. Next weekend I will disassemble it and check it. As you can see on the picture it is loose on the mount, not sure it is intended or not as it is working fine but I do not like it much so I will see to put it back correctly tighten.
