Rob Eberle is probably the best surveyor I've ever used.

Rob is excellent, I can speak from first hand experience on that. There are some threads on the subject on The Hull Truth's Carolinas sub-forum if you do a search, here are a couple other names that come up consistently.
What kind of engines does the boat have? While Rob is very good, I'm a believer in a specialist in the engines involved doing the survey on them.
I am not a fan of Eberle. He scares buyers by developing a list of almost 100 things that need doing or adding, including many that were not even on the original boat as delivered from the factory new. And he glossed over some mechanical issues that should have been caught like overheating and making wot rpms. I have experience from his doing two surveys where I was the seller on one (yes I know, I am prejudiced) and my neighbor was the seller on another.
He works our of New Bern, NC which is somewhat far from Wilmington.
Since you are probably going to need an engine surveyor as well, talk to Eric Rydzewski who is a mechanical engineer/diesel mechanic in Wrightsville Beach, NC. He is a member of this forum and goes by Ski in NC. Send him a PM. I can highly recommend him for your engine survey and he can discuss hull surveyors in his area with you.

Well, that's one reason why an engine surveyor is recommended.
My experience with him was also as a seller. I thought his survey was very fair; in my case perhaps because I knew my boat extremely well and had disclosed potential issues to prospective buyers in the first place, so there were no surprises. And the boat was in very good condition, with receipts and logs for all repairs and modifications of any kind, top quality equipment installed and proper procedures followed. So it was readily apparent that the boat under my ownership and prior owners had been maintained with a bias towards quality. Maybe all that bought me some brownie points, but he is indeed notorious as "the guy you want if you're buying and the guy you hate to see if you're selling" as both my engine mechanic and broker put it.

Thanks, Dave. I comfortable doing checks on most of the engines popular on this forum. I can help out the OP if requested.
I have worked numerous times with Rob Eberle, and consider him very good. I can't attest to the quality of his reports as I never see them. He does the hulls and equipment, I do the engines and get sea trial data. It works well as a team.
With any surveyor, if the engine could be iffy, get an engine guy to ride along. That's not the surveyor's realm of expertise. Not trying to toot my own horn, but it is too much to do for a surveyor to cover both the boat and the engines on one day.
New or warrantied engines, you probably don't need an engine guy.
MAN or other computer engines, it's not me!!! Although I think I do a decent job with Cummins computer engines.
Bob Eldridge is local in Wimington, he also is very good. But right now his is on a very well deserved break with family. I'm not sure when he is back.

Once pretty familiar with boats at the pro level...many surveyors recommended by other boaters turn out to be the worst...not all recommended...but way more than I care to think about.
Glitzy in many ways but that is not what they are really there for.
A great report can make your life miserable if the insurance company hangs on their every word. Plus many important, long term issues can be ignored or missed by them because those items are difficult to detect, prove or discuss....
