Super Bowl
Hey, how many of you folks are gonna watch the Super Bowl on your boats?
I'm stuck in work, so I'd like to know how envious*I should be.

You are the lucky one*I don't know how the Super Bowl is played
I don't know the rules
i can see a bunch of brave sole doing battle with one another
This has to be what makes America great you don't give up
Your game stirs the souls of millions.
Your Game builds character in your young people, it is all good.

Super Bowl
My son is 8 and a football maniac (actually a sports maniac in general). We definitely watched the super bowl. We had fun and he loves it. Great game!! *We didn't watch it on the boat though.

RE: Super Bowl
I tried to watch it. Yeah, we get it on Fox. Often do - sort of out of fascinated horror, wondering when the action will start, rather than stopping and talking about it all the time. I keep hoping I'll see what all those Americans like about it, but I still don't understand it. However, it's traditional the we over here understand Gridiron about as well as you guys understand cricket, so I guess that makes us even. For me, I'll stick to Soccer, Rugby, (both codes), and since I moved to Australia, I've even begun to understand the enthusiasm for what is called Aussie Rules Football. However, Gridiron - seems like football chess, really, still don't get it. All that delayed gratification seems so un-American, but the ads and the opening singer stuffing up her lines were fun.
I'd really love someone of you to explain that which I am clearly missing....?
Not all at once of course, and maybe it should go on the OTDE board?

RE: Super Bowl
Hey!* I was too busy having fun on my boat this weekend to look at the Forum!*
We had eight boats cruise over from their slips in the marina to the guest dock in front of the yacht club.* We all sterned in and we had two TVs on the back of boats (ours and the guy next to us) and two sailboats had their TVs going below.* The way the sun was we were able to see the outside*screens pretty well during the day and great (of course) as the sun went down.* We had a keg of bud and so many snacks most of us did not have a "real" lunch or dinner.* Our friend Lisa made her famous seven layer dip, which is about a foot high!* She was rewarded with a win on the* squares for the half time score.* Nobody REALLY cared who won but we had a good time.* It was just a gorgeous day and we all felt incredibly lucky to be watching the super bowl outside and enjoying our boats!* Two folks brought their dinghys over and let ppl borrow them for trips around the marina and someone else brought their kayaks and those got a bit of use as well.*
*Gotta love this yachting stuff!

RE: Super Bowl
Not to mention it was quite a warm day for the middle of winter.* Was seventy-nine degrees Fahrenheit here in Martinez, just a few miles northeast of you, Jennifer.

X2, even though we tuned out after the first quarter.* No interest since we had no horse in the race and we go to bed early in these parts. However, if we had her venue, weather and* ambience we would have somehow been able to keep our eyelids open.

RE: Super Bowl
Aha, y'all gave yourselves away there. It is as I suspected. The game is not what fires you up really, it is just too stop start, no-one can remember where it is up to, and the score only matters to the local supporters. Its the atmosphere and the venue that's the pull. The get-together using the game as the excuse. Hey, I can relate to that. The Melbourne Cup horse race over here in Melbourne is sort of like that. Most people that make a fuss over it no diddly-squat re horse racing, and never watch another race all year, but that one is special - the nation stops for it, everyone has parties for it. Super Bowl - Melbourne Cup....definitely a similarity there.
