Missed the bridge by about 30 minutes and tied up to the church pier and got drunk

Over here hauling using rails is very common, in small to medium yards, though there are plenty of yards with "travel-lifts", mainly larger yards with space to have multiple boats on the hard. Rail set ups can be twinned, or even have 2 cradles so there can be 2 boats on one set of rails.
