Richard on Dauntless

I have Richards Boat here in my slip located in Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California.

He is here staying with me for a couple weeks.

He is doing some personal travel on the mainland, running personal errands & stuff like that.

He should be ready to push off next week for points farther north - weather permitting.

He is hoping to put his boat into an in the water storage in North East San Francisco bay or the delta area. Possibly Antioch area where a covered birth is available.

So we will see how the weather is & once it clears he will again be headed north up the coast.

Dauntless is on the move again Monday morning.

Richard and his trusty ship "Dauntless" is on the move again. :speed boat:

His plan is to be leaving Monday, June 25th, in the early morning hours before sunrise from my slip in Channel Islands Harbor, which is near Oxnard, California, & he will start his trip marching up the California west coast to go to Vallejo Marina in San Francisco Bay.

He is traveling this leg alone with no crew to assist him, so to get some much needed rest he will be stopping along the way, to catch up on sleep. :nonono:

If any of the TF guys want to get some serious coastal cruzing experience or assist in any way you might want to meet him along the way at a stop to jump on board to assist him for this three or four day bash Up the California west coast.
So stay tuned to see how that goes.

Possible stops along the way are all weather dependent -, but possible stops on his list are as follows:
Possible Cojo Anchorage stop over near & just south of Point Conception, if weather does not cooperate.

Then a jump up to Port San Luis or maybe more likely Morro Bay or if weather permits Maybe on up a little further to San Simeon anchorage.
Since he is alone, then drop anchor & Get some sleep there before continuing north again.
Possibly Wait out any weather, if it changes for the worse :banghead: or get ugly. :ermm:

Then a big step up the rugged coast on up to Monterey, possible
Moss landing or Santa Cruz -- or-- again all weather dependent .
Could even maybe scoot in at Half Moon Bay's Pillar Point Harbor.

Then San Francisco Bay after that.

Then go north up inside SF Bay to Vallejo, which is new final destination for a while. :D

Travel Safe Richard, we are all pulling for you.

Looks like Richard is at the yacht club in Morro Bay, California. I’ll bet he’s glad Pts. Conception and Arguello are behind him.

Morro Bay Rest Stop & Weather Lay Over Stop

Yes, Richard went around both Point Conception & Point Arguello yesterday & then up to & arrived in Port San Luis last night around midnight.
Anchored there & got a good nights rest.
This morning he scooted the 21 miles north hop to Morro Bay.
Currently tied up at the Morro Bay Yacht Club and got a great rate of $ 35 a night.
Ate lunch at the Dutchman's Seafood House & living the good life.
He will be here in Morro Bay probably till end of the week & is watching for a good weather window to continue north.
Boat is running great as usual.
Currently still traveling alone with no crew, so must make rest stops.

A little late to the party but I drive Harbor/Channel Islands Blvd. as my commute, and Dauntless caught my eye driving by. Nice boat.

Enjoy MBYC. That’s our home club. If your into semi-modern American food a friend of ours owns a restaurant down towards the north end of the Embarcadero called “House of Ju-Ju.” It’s Morro Bay prices but the food is good. Also try the “Coffee Pot” for breakfast if you like classic diner style food.

I heard from Richard today. He's planning to depart Morro Bay with the target of arriving at the Golden Gate bridge by 1300 Sunday, then another 3 hrs or so on the flood to Vallejo Muni Marina where his new covered slip awaits.

Maybe we should provide an escort for the last segment up Mare Island Strait. Anyone else interested in escorting? We even have a boat with a cannon! How 'bout it, Mark?

Al, that would be very cool! How about starting a thread suggesting that as not everyone on the forum is following this thread?

Wifey B: I knew Mark has a cannon, but who has the canon? I'd be interested in knowing if it's a church rule or a general principle?

Example Canon: One should not be a smart a... and make fun of someone else's spelling.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Maybe it's the Canadian air I'm breathing.

Typo corrected. 1000 apologies

Still a long way to go

Before you set your watches to his arrival time.

Remember, he still has not left yet & has a long way to go.

The best laid plans of mice & men often go astray.

Weather looks to be good starting Saturday morning at 3:00 am on through Monday with it improving every day.

So follow his track & then work out the time as he gets closer.

He says he is planning to leave at 3:00 am on Saturday Morning.

Thanks.

Great trip Richard.

Well, it's been a year in SF and he is on the move again. Left there a week or two ago after a long spell of crappy strong north winds.

Left Vancouver a day or so ago and is making way north.

I have not talked to him about his long term plans, but I think they will be interesting...

Alaska, then what? Russia, Japan??

Go Richard!! Go Dauntless!!

Could his boat go around the world entirely? Or would the stretch from India to Africa to the Middle East not be feasible on a boat of his size?

What an adventurer.

What an adventurer.

The boat has already crossed the Atlantic twice. It absolutely can go "around the world". And I think that is exactly his goal!

Okay. I've been following several other long range power cruisers and it seems like that area of the world isn't traveled as extensively. Maybe because of political instability and piracy in certain nations of NE Africa and the mid East?

Yep, from SE Asia to Africa seems to a bunch of sketchy areas. Not sure how he plans to handle that. I'd want a full crew and be armed, but that creates even more and new problems.

We had a nice time with Richard in our Vallejo Muni Marina for the year. He enjoyed our covered, freshwater slips for catching up on his boat projects out of the sun and rain. He ended up waiting longer than expected for the north winds to let up enough for his journey north but was able to use the time to complete more upgrades and maintenance.

I've been impressed with the size and design of the vessel that makes it possible to cross oceans with this 42 footer. One day while helping Richard on D, I stepped to the bow pulpit to catch a breeze and enjoy the view. While standing on the anchor pulpit, I found I was standing eye-to-eye level with Richard who was standing on the FB deck! That's one helluva bow rise for a 42 foot rec boat! And the foredeck is so steeply sloped that no water could ever remain there for more than a few seconds.

Safe travels and following seas, Richard! Thanks for stopping by for the short (1 year!) visit! We miss you already!

One way to handle it would be to display all of these indicating contagion, bio-hazard and radiation aboard Dauntless. Might at least deter the elite, educated pirates?

The odds of being boarded by elite, educated pirates are pretty low.
