Quality Surveyors in Vancouver
I'm flying out to Vancouver CA to see a wooden seiner converted to live-aboard. I'd like to have a surveyor lined up to do a survey if the boat passes my less than discerning eye. Does anyone have experience with a skilled surveyor in the area who possesses experience with wooden boats?
I appreciate any advice and/or contacts.

Funny, I was going to suggest TIm McGivney also.
He had the rep. of being a buyers surveyor when I was at BYC.

I used Tim McGivney's company for my inspection and was pleased with the survey. (Though I belong to the same club that he does, so I am biased)

Treading gently here, but just where in "Vancouver CA" is it?
Might make a difference who you get or, is available.
If it is within "Greater Vancouver" area, you will find TIm McGivney on most insurers lists.

If you contact TIm then you might also ask about a shipwright who I know only as Murray. Never had anything to do with him but I know he was in high demand for the repairs of wooden vessels. Murray has a good rep. around the area and between the two you should get excellent results.
I have no idea if the two play well together so it's only a suggestion.

Maybe Bob Murray of the BC Tugboat Heritage Society?
Just a shot.

South Vancouver
Thanks for all help. It is on the south end of Vancouver near the US border. The initial survey will be for me as part of evaluating it for purchase. It would be nice if a second full survey doesn't need to be done for insurance, but I don't have an insurer yet. Plus I won't be having it hauled for this initial survey. This will be the 2nd boat I'm going to look at. It is quite far from home, but looks amazing from the old surveys and photos.

Good stuff.
A lot of people mix up Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Bit of a difference for someone on a long run like yours.
If it is the one I think it is, you can practicslly step onto it from the plane.
Good luck.

Or my friend and colleague Murray Brown of Murray Brown boat works. Murray would be my go to guy to assess a wooden boat. He does most of the work on wooden commercial fishing boats and conversions in the Steveston area.

John Dolmage at Tidemark Marine. He personally converted a 65' wood seiner to a yacht (Cape Ross) and he is an expert surveyor of wooden yachts. Known him for years, best you'll find on this coast. PM me if you want his number.
