Practial Sailor LOVES IT!

The latest issue of PS loves this goop under properly done terminal ends with good (anchor) marine wire.

But reading the advertising hoopla it might work as well for the TT folks with old iron tanks .

Who knows? But it might work.

NO-OX-ID Metal Corrosion Protection

Stop rust and block corrosion with NO-OX-ID rust proofing products. These rust preventatives form a barrier coating to insure corrosion protection in severe corrosive and marine environments. Our NO-OX-ID anti corrosion coatings contain Sanchems active corrosion inhibitor system that will prevent rust with just one coating application. NO-OX-ID is not a paint, it is a rust preventative metal treatment that can work in highly corrosive, high humidity and high salt environments where paints repeatedly fail. All NO-OX-ID products are RoHS compliant and Sanchem is ISO-9001.

Product Features:

These non-toxic high performance rust preventatives require only minimal surface preparation, has a clean environmentally friendly MSDS and does not require curing or drying time. These user friendly rust preventative coatings can be applied in any climate.* NO-OX-ID products have been protecting pipes and valves against rust and corrosion for years in the most severe of environments such as ocean tidal areas, lock & dams, salt plants, chemical manufacturing plants, pineapple processing plant and sewage treatment plants.

NO-OX-ID can even be applied to a wet surface. To demonstrate this to yourself, in a small container of water, submerge a small piece of clean metal. Dip the other hand in NO-OX-ID A-Special and rub it on the metal while under water. Notice the excellent bond of the NO-OX-ID to the metal!

NO-OX-ID Rust Preventative Products are your Corrosion Solution

NO-OX-ID "A-SPECIAL" is the best long term rust prevention coating ever developed. After World War I, NO-OX-ID was used as a military grease by the navy to put the majority of the naval fleet into "mothballs". The propulsion machinery was protected with NO-OX-ID military grease compounds they called cosmoline. All of the original 50 destroyers, sent to Great Britain prior to the United States entry into World War II, were protected with NO-OX-ID. When taken out of mothballs 20 years later, they were found to be in perfect condition.

Last year, one gas company was putting in a larger line so they dug up the old line. They inspected the NO-OX-ID coated valves that were removed, and they were in perfect condition, 53 years after initial NO-OX-ID application. NO-OX-ID rust proofing products penetrate so deeply into the metal's surface structure that rust generating water, oxygen and inorganic salts are sealed out.

NO-OX-ID A-Special is a soft, wax based rust preventative and lubricant that contains an active rust inhibitor and small amount of solvent for ease of application. This corrosion resistant coating can be applied by spray or brush application. NO-OX-ID controls corrosion by leaving a thick, semi-transparent, non-drying barrier coating that retains its anti rust properties indefinitely.

NO-OX-ID "A-SPECIAL" is the electrical contact grease of choice in new electrical installations and maintenance because of its excellent performance in keeping metals free from corrosion. This rust preventitive has been used for over 50 years to preventing corrosion in electrical connectors from low micro-power electronics to high voltage switchgear. NO-OX-ID A-Special prevents the formation of oxides, sulfides and other corrosion deposits on copper and aluminum surfaces and conductors can be prevented with its use. ------------>>>

Coast Guard experiences with NO-OX-ID. The 14th district has been using NO-OX-ID for the last 20 years. NO-OX-ID has been used to protect metal surfaces on the 1350 -ft(412m), 1000-ft(303m), 625 - ft. (191m) and 129-ft (39m) towers formerly part of the 14th U.S. Coast Guard District. The towers are located at Bataan and Naulo Point, Philippines. The towers are aluminum with galvanized connectors and require no color coating. The NO-OX-ID was applied to the galvanized connectors of the Bataan tower. The Naulo Point tower was completely coated with NO-OX-ID. An inspection of the Naulo Point tower found no evidence of corrosion. However, corrosion crust was evident on the uncoated metal surfaces of Bataan tower. The both towers are located in a very aggressive, tropical, marine environment. Use NO-OX-ID to prevent aluminum corrosion, iron corrosion for general all purpose marine corrosion control .

A chemical plant engineer*in the Lousianna bayou had a metal cyclone fence that had to be replace every couple of years due to the high humidity. He has used our product on his fence now for over 20 years and he has not replaced it since. Furthermore, he said company security people love the product because nobody wants to touch the product they have not been breaking in!

How safe is NO-OX-ID A-Special? This corrosion protection product is NSF approved for drinking water tanks and USDA approved as a lubricant/rust proofing compound for meat & poultry plants.

NO-OX-ID "A" is a heavy duty wax based rust preventative designed for hot application methods (160-180F). Upon cooling, the resultant corrosion resistant coating is amber colored, non-drying resistant to high humidity, salt spray, acid and alkali environments.* This rust proofing product has been through long term corrosion studies of* 3 years humidity cabinet testing (no corrosion) testing 3 years salt spray (no corrosion) and is NSF approved.

RE: Practial Sailor LOVES IT!

FF,
Thank you for the tip!!* I was the one who has the Iron Fuel Tank rust spot issue.* I just ordered 2 of these!* Thanks for the information, I never would have been aware otherwise.* I think this will work for a number of applications*besided just my rust spot on my take (i.e. external wiring applications).
Thanks again for the idea.

I suppose this is an example of no NO-OX-ID:

(Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad's*Suisun Bay (Benicia-Martinez) bridge whose completion in 1930 spelled the end of the largest railroad ferries in the world,*operating between Port Costa and Benicia.)

Looks like standard primer and paint.

RE: Practial Sailor LOVES IT!

I have found this stuff to be great for wrapping my hydraulic fittings it is called petrowrap.* It is a wax and grease tape.

The stuff is great to keep rust off your fittings.

I took some off an old hydraulic valve. It had been on there for 20+ years the fittings looked like new.*

I stand corrected.* The remains of standard primer and paint that after 25-35 years has turned to rust.

The point being it isn't NO - OX - ID for sure.

All of the old railroad bridges up north near the steel mills from Cleveland to Pittsburg*use to rust that way all of the time.* Then in the 60's US Steel came out with a steel product that formed a protective surface rust ion*(Fe3O2)*almost immediately and then never needed painting.*It was supposed to be used on bridges and then needed no maintenance afterwards.*They even built a building north of Pittsburgh of this*stuff.* The problem is that it looks like an old rusted building the day it is completed and even in the "Rust Belt" that look never caught on.

That is probably Corten steel, John Deere's headuarters in Moline was the first building made of Cor-ten, construction was finished in 1964. Still in use today and referred to by employees as "The Rusty Palace". It is a nice looking building and has won quite a few awards from different groups.

RE: Practial Sailor LOVES IT!

is this the best anti corrosion application to use?
Boeing makes a product also called Boeshield
then there is Corrosion X

what is the best stuff to use for rust prevention (other than paint/rustoleum)
i am talking stuff to apply to your ER in general / all metal + steel parts.
some can be sprayed on electrical components also..

I've used the Boeing product, I believe it's called T-9. I haven't had the boat long enough to opinionize.
