Philadelphia Marina Gone

Wifey B: Yes, the Philadelphia Marine Center, a 150 slip marina is kaput. New owner closed it and hasn't announced his plans. About 55 boats in it when announced, although normally full in summer. Also, 20 or so liveaboards even though not allowed. Maybe someone local knows more about where the boats have gone and what it means for boating there. What I've been told is there's a big shortage of slips already.

Reason this comes up is that Philadelphia is our planned next destination. Otherwise, doubt I'd have known.

That's the trend. Rarely is a marina the most profitable use of waterfront land.

Not all that suprising. A common occurrence in the mid Atlantic and points North. With a limited seasonal business, ever increasing government regulation and taxes, the land in the area where it's located becomes too valuable to justify its use as a marina. Most likely a financial gain for the city. This has happened in a number of smaller cities where marinas are replaced with high end waterfront condos, sometimes with private slips.
