Old Marine Trader

So I'm looking at a 1974 Marine Trader that is currently kept in a covered slip.* She looks pretty clean for a 34 year old boat.* She does have some of the core rot issues; around the lower aft corners of the house and around some of the windows.* A few soft spots in the deck.* No survey yet, but overall she seems fairly solid.*
But what Im wondering about is what happens if I dont keep her at a covered slip and shes now exposed to sun and rain year round?* Should I be expecting to see a rapid decline in her condition?* Is she going to start leaking all around the house while she sits at the dock in the torrential summer rainstorms?

Yes, Probably I would expect it. Our TT has not been under cover for over three years (we like it that way). Got any teak plank decks? If they are not well maintained, they will leak. Unless they are in pristine condition, they will leak. *Any boat with wood on it rots. Mine is a 1981 and I have removed plenty of rot from her. I removed the foredeck and bridge teak planking and covered them with glass. The wife wanted the deck wells and cockpit restored. (Yes dear). The teak stringers under the cockpit floor were soft and rotting. I completely restored / replaced the entire cockpit. Its just that you will have to spend time with it finding and fixing leaks. I knew what I was getting into when we bought her. I have one more to find / fix. When I get that one fixed, Im certain there will be another one waiting for me someplace! I dont want to sound discouraging cause you can control it and stop the leaking. Got Patents?

I recently purchased a 1987 40" Marine Trader Sundeck and am trying to find a schematic of the fuel system on my wonderful "new" old boat.
Any ideas on where or how I could find it.

That was my 1 and only MT. I did learn a lesson, maybe quite a few, actually!


Next boat - minimal wood on the exterior and either solid glass decks & house or a much newer/modern boat that handles the wood core issues much better.



I'm hoping to mostly retire at the end of this year. If all goes well and I can better understand my retirement finances, I'll be downsizing to a trailer-able Parker 21SC or 23SC.
