It all depends on which you prefer: cool versus hot, humid.
I'll take cool every time, as my travels show.
But climate being equal, I have noted a fundamental difference in attitude in the two climes:
The cooler places, seek to be cultures that revolve around the sea: New England, Northern Europe, from Galicia to the Baltic.
They wave at every boat, fishermen, military, doesn't matter, the sea is a tough place for all of us.
The warmer places, it's more a question of convenience: SE US, Caribbean, Mediterranean.
While there are many fishing communities, they have been overwhelmed by money and people of the recreational variety and everyone acts accordingly.
