New York City visit

We will be cruising through NYC in June and need advice on dockage. Our daughter lives in manhattan. Marina's outside manhattan are fine as long as the are close to the subway. We will probably stay 3 days.

Liberty Landing on the Jersey side
Direct ferry across the river (Trade Center Area) 10 mins across
Marinas on the NYC side can get a bit wavy..........
Liberty Landing is a 1st class facility

Get a mooring at the 79th St Boat Basin. Great subway access and with the difference take your daughter to a Broadway play.

We stayed at Liberty Landing last July during a heat wave. The near by restaurant is excellent. If you have bikes there is a lot to see on the NJ side. Due to the heat (100F) we did not go into Manhattan but would recommend it. They're service desk and store at Liberty landing is good. We had a pleasant visit. Although when we pulled in, we were assigned a dock with a very tight fit, with our new to us boat (MS 430 aft cabin). The dock hands were great at assisting us. It was tight the next morning at 0600 when we departed. Overall a great location.

Depends a little bit on where you are coming from/going to. We were coming down LI Sound, planning on going up the Harlem River to the Hudson, so it was convenient for us to stop in Port Washington for a few days while visiting our daughter in NYC. The Town Dock has transient moorings which were free for the first 48 hrs, then $25/night (including water taxi). LIRR has a spur terminal in Port Washington, so it's easy to get to Penn Station. It's a nice town with good stores/restaurants downtown right near the dock. There are also a couple of marinas nearby.

Liberty Landing is good with the Ferry. Newport is good with the train, so quicker to the city.

Chelsea piers is 6/foot for boat's under 55'. Tough to beat being right in the city. Just think of it as a hotel room without bedbugs.

Port Washington is your best bet.

I am planning on cruising to or through NYC next spring.

From my reading, Liberty Landing was one of the least expensive marinas in the NYC area. Don't expect NYC to be inexpensive. It is not.

If you want to stay on the Manhattan side of the river Liberty Landing runs Pier 25 in season. Six dollars a foot at dock or seventy five a night at moorings.

Liberty Landing is $4.00 per foot.
Port Washington is a free mooring.
