I moved my boat from Annapolis to Southport, NC for the winter and set it up with a Carframo engine compartment heater just in case. I wanted some way to monitor the temperature as well since I am over 400 miles away. I found the answer in the Temp Stick, a little device from a company called Ideal Science. I have one in the engine compartment and one in the cabin and they send readings once an hour over marina WiFi. They are about the size of a Twinkie and have lithium batteries so you just lay them where you want them and they take it from there. Works great! You can also have notifications sent to you via text message or email for temperature or humidity thresholds or connections. I have mine set to notify me if it gets below 40 degrees so that I can monitor whether the engine heater is coming on. At Southport I doubt it will be a problem but I like knowing. It is available direct from the manufacturer or from Amazon for $149. I highly recommend it.
