KJ, you hit it.* Water and music just seem to go together.* Some of my favorites have been chosen.

Here is one a little upbeat:* Rock the Boat by the Hues* Corp.

Last Farewell by Roger Witittaker

Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills, and Nash

And just for a bonus:* One Particular Harbor* can't say who did that one.

Then we have everybodys' favorite*** Capt. Ron is Losing his Ass by Don and Ron

A couple of local favorites from the Abacos where we cruise in the Bahamas:

Hanging Out in Abaco by Stone McKewan

Let's Go Go to Abaco by Kevin McIntosh and the Gully Roosters.* They play the Green Turtle Club every Wednesday.* Scroll down and see the dancers.

I don't know the origin of this but we used to sing it in the US Navy:

"Away, away with the fife & drum,
Here we come, full of rum,
We're lookin for women who peddle their bum,
to the North Atlantic Squadron."

(2 more verses )

Ah yes ,* the classic*Sea Chantey *(shanty)

here's the only one I know

SPANISH LADIES
(The Yankee Version - Adapted by Roger Chartier)

Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies
Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain
For we've received orders to sail to New Bedford
And perhaps we shall never more see you again.

Chorus:
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of New Bedford
Nantucket to home is just a few leagues

We hove our ship to with the wind at the sou'west boys
We hove our ship to for to take soundings clear
In fifty five fathoms with a fine sandy bottom
We filled main tops'l up channel did steer

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of New Bedford
Great Point to home is just a few leagues

The first land we made was a place called Nantucket
Martha's Vinyard, Woods Hole then down Buzzards Bay
We sailed then by Marion, Mattapoisett, and Fairhaven
Then bore straight away for New Bedford, hooray

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of New Bedford
The Vinyard to home is just a few leagues

Now the Captain called out for our grand ship to anchor
We clewed up our tops'ls stuck out tacks and sheets
We stood by our stoppers, we brailed in our spankers
And anchored ahead of the noblest of fleets

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of New Bedford
Woods Hole to home is just a few leagues

Let every man here drink up his full bumper,
Let every man here drink up his full bowl
And let us be jolly and drown melancholy
And drink a health to each jovial and true hearted soul

We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of New Bedford
West Island to home is just a few leagues.

Sloop John B: Beach Boys, my first boat song way back when all I had was a resurected wood skiff.
Edmund Fitzgerald
Southern Cross

Good one KJ, it reminds me of Jaws when the Captain of the trawler sang it when they were after the shark.

RE: My three favorite songs about boats that I have listened to more than once

Yeah, Cap'n Quint of the USS Indianapolis. A few years back I was sitting in DFW waiting for a flight to Amarillo when I saw this old guy w/ a USS Indianapolis reunion cap on. I waited till we were in AMA and in line to pick up our luggage and went over and introduced myself and asked him about the cap. He said he was retuning from their reunion and handed me his card and said the he was a survivor of the ship. His wife was in a wheelchair so I asked if I could help with their luggage or anything; he said no, we're just fine. The man's name is Cleatus Lebow, Memphis, Texas, his card read "USS Indianapolis, Still At Sea". I have the card taped to Old School's ship log. Pretty cool.
