OK I can't add my own to this thread yet but it is in progress.
I have added a few photos of other similar boats with rigs , even one with a fly bridge.
It would appear they are more popular down under than in the top half of the world.
It looks like the fly bridge photo won't upload.
Cheers
Benn

Nice, if you do a little more research I think you will find the mast is mounted in a line with the front edge of the helm door (where the spotlight is) and the height is about half way between the two furlers

All 58 RW original had a forward mast, so the footing and the chain plates are still there. I have several times looked at adding a forward mast/sails. However I doubt we would have actual use the sails but they could help/assist the get home if required. There is one 58 RW they made into a motor sailor, as they where planning on long ocean passages. I am not sure what a forward mast sail would affect the stability? I think they had to added some balast and they added fish stabilizers. I noticed many of the motor sail picutred have fish stabilizers? Any way they had a falling out and sold the 58 which last I hears was in Panama area.
We do have a steady sail that under way little/no effect, so we will probable use it only for anchoring as a vane to reduce the swing. Being the Eagle pilot house is mid boat we tend to not swing to much. They say a stern pilot house reduces the swing and the forward house will increase the swing?
Anyway here is a picture of the 58 RW motor sailor.

Motorsailers
Now you have hit upon a subject near and dear to my heart. I suspect if you googled my name along with the word motorsailer you would find many discussions and my website, ie:
Motor/Sailer Design Expedition Yacht
Motor Sailers by Philip Rhodes & John Alden - YachtForums.Com
There are two monohull motorsailers I am particularly fond of, an Alden 57' & a Rhodes 44'.
Here is that Rhodes 44.
(Turns out there were only 2 of this particular design ever built back in the days of heavy single-shin fiberglass. I have in mind redesigning her with steel hull, and lt-weight cored superstructure, and 3 rig options, and a single 6 engine)

Hi Brian,
I've run across your name often while researching motorsailers. Nice to have another who appreciates them so much on board here.
I am certainly a convert. IMHO they are the perfect boat in this part of the world with the constant wind and unprotected water.
I am constantly learning more about the intracacies of operating a motorsailer, and appreciating how beautifuly the two power sources work together.
Yes - that Arthur Robb MS certainly is a beaut. It doesn't have the cockpit like the lovely Rhodes, but there's not much else wanting on it. Hmmmmm.....

I'm going over to the 'dark side' though as I consider a power only canal trawler vessel

Does anyone know the make of this boat? I think its great! I used to drool over one of these in Sippican Harbor when I was a teenager. I haven't seen one since.

The Wellington is interesting, lots of room and passive flotation; but I'm not that keen on a flybridge motorsailer. Too much lower sail area lost due to the flybridge resulting in a higher centre of force and more heeling. Fine for running downwind though.

I also was never too keen on those ever higher flybridges pushing the whole sailplan upwards. But I've always appreciated a flybridge option.
On my mast aft (single-masted ketch) I located the 'flybridge' back under my wishbone shaped boom for the mizzen sail (note the boomless nature of the mizzen sail over the flybridge area):
Motor/Sailer Design Expedition Yacht
Also provided for a 'crow's nest' on the gamefishing version:
Gamefishing Design - a 65' mast-aft sailing catamaran.
The DynaRig version had a more complete flybridge arrangement, again located aft the major sail area, rather than directly below it:
