Threats to Coast Guard
https://www.dvidshub.net/audio/59779...adio-broadcast
Anyone recognize the voice?

Quote:
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard is seeking information regarding a person making threats and hoax calls on marine band radio off the gulf coast of Florida.
Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg command center received the latest threat on Aug. 13, 2019 via VHF channel 22A.
In this call, the male caller makes threats against the Coast Guard personnel, aircrafts and vessels. The broadcast sounds like the same person who has made other radio broadcasts that start with MAYDAY three times and then talks about, “scrambling all jets we are under nuclear attack.”
Penalties for making false distress calls and hoaxes can include up to 10 years in prison, $250,000 in fines, plus the cost of the search.
“Hoax calls are costly to the taxpayer and our service,” said Charles ‘Marty’ Russell, resident agent-in-charge of the Coast Guard Investigative Service office in St. Petersburg. “When the Coast Guard receives a distress call, we immediately respond, putting our crews at risk, and risking the lives of boaters who may legitimately need our help.”
If anyone has information leading to the identification of a hoax caller, please contact the Coast Guard Investigative Service St. Petersburg at (727) 535-1437 extension 2308.

Odds are he'll get away with it, but my hope is they catch him and throw the book at him!

With that ranting voice there, someone sitting on an adjacent bar stool has heard it. The wider this message goes, the more likely someone that's heard the voice will be able to report it.

False Maydays....he may get away with it.
Terroristic threats and to USCG personnel...he may get a run for his money...and the USCG has a LONG memory when it wants to.

For some people without a life, holding a VHF microphone seems to make them feel powerful. Even so, that was some strange $#it.

Better a microphone than a semi-automatic in a mall or school.

Supposedly the new Rescue 21 system they've been using for several years now can pinpoint the location of a transmission. But it never seems they do.

. Queensland man allegedly abuses marine rescue volunteers
AAP, The Courier-Mail
January 8, 2019 9:53am
A Queensland man allegedly hampered a search and rescue operation when he used the emergency VHF radio channel to repeatedly abuse volunteers.
Water police said the 41-year-old from Manly spent several hours on January 2 broadcasting vulgar and offensive language and insults targeting marine rescue volunteers who were responding to a genuine mayday call in waters off Brisbane.
The man will face court at a later date after being charged with unlicensed operation of a radio-communication and recklessly causing interference with radio-communications, with water police saying it was fortunate nobody was injured because of his actions

In a long time on the water, these events happen from time to time. Usually it's a kid or a group of kids that think it's funny. Those that keep it up get caught. The USCG probably has a pretty good idea now. In a crowded sea it may be hard to id the boat that did it, but they probably have a list of vessels.
A long time ago, when we had AM radios, before SSB, a bored sailor on a Japanese tuna boat was interfering with the marine operator. He could of been 1000 miles offshore, but they found him with the RDF equipment of that time.
