Maspower generator issues

I have a Maspower 8kw generator with a Yanmar 3TnV76. Have not run the gen in three months. Tried to start it today using the remote panel like I usually do. It started up and ran for a few seconds (and sounded normal) and then died before I could get to the stern to check water flow. . I looked at the panel on the gen and the “turtle” light was flashing and the oil light was on.

Checked the oil and water and they are good.

Any ideas?

You need to clean out the turtles.

[sorry]

It started up and ran fine. Huh!

Guess that’s why you need to run them more than every 3 months. [emoji23]

Thanks for the help Ski, for the 827th time. [emoji51]

Most all gen controls have a fault protection timer. Usually it's around 30 seconds. So when the unit starts it has x amount of time for everything to stabilize before the protections are armed. You will need to get a manual for the unit and see if it has flash codes our not. Oil psi safeties are sometimes tripped when units shut down for other things that may not be indicated. So as ski suggested. Clear the alarm and retry it. If Tripp's off again. Start with the basics first. Does it have oil. water level ok. Is it running at rated speed. Does it make rated voltage.

Turtle crawled in tailpipe. That's what the hieroglyph means. Your first start attempt annoyed him, so he left.

Happens all the time. They leave on their own. That's why I suggested another start attempt.

You should contract with me to get in my boat and run up LBK to your boat and start everything on a regular basis; that way’ll they’ll both get their cobwebs rattled regularly.
I try to make sure mine gets out of the slip once a week to keep weeds and barnacles from getting too comfy, but even that takes effort sometimes.

Lol same here. Some of the stuff from overseas has some that make you scratch your head. Our main genset control panel has the ability for custom text for alarms. And as you might imagine you can get rather creative with wording for some alarms.
