I must agree with Doug. I've eaten at Joe's many times (guests like to experience it) and don't think the food overall is any better than any other good seafood restaurant. It is surely priced for the tourist trade. And yes it is a madhouse. Not MY favorite.

Wifey B: That's like saying all steaks are the same and all chicken is the same. I've tried them elsewhere and been quite disappointed. I don't know if it's the selection of crabs or the way prepared or way cooked or how served, but I am sold on Joe's. And let me assure you it's not the atmosphere to me, as I think the place is a madhouse.

Let me preface this by saying that my absolute favorite food is stone crab claws. I consider them to be manna from heaven. I'd eat them three times a week if I could.

As Miami is part of my territory for work, I'm down there quite a bit. A couple of times I have been traveling with management with expense accounts and they have taken me to Joe's. Joe's has excellent stone crab claws.

But here's the thing, all stone crab claws ar excellent unless they are spoiled. They alll taste the same. Joe's doesn't cook their claws themselves, no one does. Claws are cooked by the crabber then sold. The shells are really thick, no flavoring gets through to the meat, which doesn't need any flavor added, it's perfect already.

Joe's is very, very expensive. Maybe you are paying for the atmosphere, which is cool if thats what you are into, but you aren't paying for better stone crab claws. All stone crab claws, unless Frozen or something, are the same.

I agree. I've eaten a few hundred times at Joes over the past 23 years I've lived in s Florida. I've had equally good claws from fish mongers and Costco (when you can get them). Publix is always a crap shoot for what you will get.

You may have missed Suntex taking over and then new management. Rates have gone up.

I learned something. It has been a while since we stayed at the marina, maybe a couple of years. Stopped at the fuel dock in January, but just fueled and went on, didn't stay the night.

I agree that is the best marina if your destination is South Beach. We have been to South Beach a couple of times, great food, but not really our interest. We are more interested in Boca Grande, Marathon, or South Seas, etc.

IMO those are very high rates. If they have people who will pay them, then more power to them. With the number of boaters who definitely value the location - I don't imagine they have any problems.

Just probably not a stop for us.

One thing I always noticed about Joe’s is the crabs are cracked perfectly. Plus I have had crabs that were not very good at other places but not at Joe’s, however they are pricey.

Why doesn't anyone mention DKM. It's a great location, many restaurants and a Fresh Market in walking distance. Prices are still reasonable and from what I understand transient slips are almost always available. And for those that like South Beach for topless, Haulover Beach is a much better beach with a much better atmosphere and everyone can go al natural (a much better way to experience the beach (and boating for that matter)).

Prices are still reasonable and from what I understand transient slips are almost always available. Wifey B: Since the OP never returned, never gave us any info on what he considers reasonable, never told us what he wanted in a marina, we're all completely in the dark. As to Haulover vs South Beach, very different group of people. I like the international flavor of South Beach.

For many of us who live here Haulover is considered second rate while South Beach is.....SoBe. As far as the topless point, regular folks go to Haulover but pornstars and hard bodies go to SoBe waiting to be discovered.

Wifey B: SoBe is more of a few removing their tops, wearing thong bottoms, and other people just looking which those being viewed like fine. Haulover is more full participation. SoBe more Europeans and South Americans, Haulover more from the US. Haulover is the first and/or only clothing optional beach most who go there have been to. Most who are on SoBe have been topless elsewhere as well and really don't think of it as a big thing.

My point was the original poster was looking for reasonable marinas in Miami (as I am) and it went off to whatever/wherever. There are a lot of us out here that can't afford 8/10 dollar a foot marinas and quite frankly even if we could, would no have no desire for that type of experience.

And, although asked, the OP never indicated what he considered reasonable or what he wanted from the marina. Are we talking transient or a month or six months or a year? Does it need to be right in the city or can it be out a way? We'd all be glad to help both of you but can't do so without information. A lot of difference if one is looking for a season at anything below $35 per foot month versus one looking for a month but maximum price of $20 per foot per month. Big difference between one looking for all amenities and one simply wanting a dock. Then if one is looking for transient at no more than $1 per foot per day, we're out of luck in Miami.

Please, we'd love to help, but help us in knowing what your requirements are and don't use the term "reasonable" as we can't possibly guess what you consider reasonable. Just tell us.
