Hi, looking for some owner help. I have pretty much landed on the 390, can’t see 50K or better in the 400. So the details of what changed through model years 2000 to 2004. I have heard changes from interior wood and exterior rails but that is all I really know. Is there a comprehensive list somewhere perhaps?

The other big question is with the flooded platform. What is the visual que to see the platform was addressed by OEM and did that occur in the factory starting in a certain year or were all platforms problematic right up to the last 390 Hull in 2004?

Good luck. I toured a 390 last year in RI. They are cool but it wasn't for me.
 
Nothing changed in the 390 between 2000 and 2004. The changes were between the 350 and the 390. The 350 was rebadged as the 390 and a few things were changed.

1) Guest berth was changed from a double berth in the 350 to twins in the 390

2) 350 had overlay style cabinets with built-in hand pulls. The 390 had flush mounted cabinets with pop-up hardware.

3) The 350 had aluminum hand rails. Teh 390 had SS handrails.

4) The 390 introduced a dish cabinet above the sink in the galley.

5) The 390 had a different shade of white gelcoat.

6) The 350 had a small (semi-useless) desk just Stbd of the salon slider. This was shortened into a shelf on the 390.

7) The 390 had upgraded sliding door hardware as compared to the 350.

8) The 390 introduced some bolsters on the seating in the upper helm.

9) The 350 had surface mounted cleats on the stern, while the 390 had a deck hawse and cleats inboard.

10) The 390 had locking cockpit deck hatches, the deck hatches are simply held in by gravity on the 350.

The 400 is a completely different boat. It did not evolve from the 350/390.
 
Also the swim platform 'bussel' should show the after market repairs. If it has been repaired, you will see access hatches in the top of the swim platform.

We ended up with the 400 for a couple of major reasons:

-It has a dinette table
-It doesn't have the "bathtub" which the 390 has outside the lower helm door, which is hard to keep drained (so I'm told)
-Double swinging doors to the cabin instead of sliders
-Generator in the aft lazarette which is quieter from inside the cabin
-Faux teak and holly inside instead of carpeting

Very happy with it.

Whomever told you might have had a drainage issue, however My 350 doesn't have an issue with drainage, nor does my neighbors 390.

My 350 has faux teak and holly soles. My neighbors 390 has real teak and holly soles.

I will admit the 400's overhangs over the side decks are nice. The salon and galley are definitely bigger and the settee is nice. The three helms chairs at the upper helm and the wrap around seating on the upper is also really nice.

I stand corrected! A friend who owned a 390 warned me about it as his did have a problem.

It's not the rollers, its the wide open passageway from all the way from the dinette to the transom that really opens up the space for entertaining.

Interesting. The 390 we looked at had it underneath the saloon. Did it move to different locations for a twin vs single I wonder?

I did not mean to put down the 390, its a fine boat. Just wanted to throw my personal preferences out there.

I didn't take it as an insult. Just inaccurate.

Actually, it did. Using real feedback from 350/390 owners, Mainship designed the 400 as a replacement for that series.
 
In regards to the starboard drain, it’s only an issue if leaves or other debris prevent draining. It could fill up 6” and go into the salon.
