Good full walk-around side decks are definitely a wonderful thing for line handling. I wouldn't give mine up for just about anything.

ClivePC- yes I agree that I would consider giving up the flybridge for the pilot house. In fact I did and no regrets. I have found that the shade and a/c as well as being within earshot of my wife is a big benefit of the PH. I have had both on a 58 ft Hatteras and there are a few times the FB was nice to have but over the 6 years most of my time was in the PH.The single station keeps the systems much simpler and I am generally more comfortable inside. If weather is nice I just open both side doors. But like most things there is no right answer, you just have to decide what is best for you.

Interesting, the flybridge is used 95% of the time for us.

Walk round decks are really nice

Lipets,
I suspect that how and where you boat as well as personal preference contributes to use of the flybridge. I am certainly not opposed to having one and I have owned 3 other boats that did.

My personal position is best summarized by stating that I don't consider a flybridge essential. It can be a nice feature at times but I prefer the simplicity of the single station PH. I consider the PH essential for comfort of ride, avoiding bugs, climate control, etc. Also many boats have a lower station but not the same as a pilot house and often not that useful

If I had to back into slips a lot I would prefer a secondary cockpit station over flybridge. Many other considerations that would influence my boat selection that would take priority over the flybridge vs. No flybridge question.

We use our flybridge 100% of the time.

OTOH, we don't have a lower helm at all...
