My single engine trawler is in the yard being fitted with stabilizers. Our cruising plans include West Coast and Mexico. I'm familiar with line cutters mounted to the prop shaft--but what about line cutters mounted forward of stabilizer fins--are they an effective "defense" against stray rope/nets and crab pots?

stabalizer fin line anti-jam line cutter

I would mount something to direct, deflect or cut any arrant lines from crab pots, etc. from getting in at base of the fin, between fin & hull & jamming in there.

Be Advised - Of course this is only most effective in the fin locked position.

But yes - recommended.

FYI Whatever you choose, I have for sale, a set (for 2 shafts) of SPURS line cutters for 2-1/2in shafts. They were take offs but are in very good shape.
