Woodsong, you're a real romantic...but you're right. However, although money can't buy love, or health really, or happiness...not having it can certainly cause a lot of unhappiness. It gives one choices I guess, and a degree of control over your life. Put it this way....I have never heard anyone who has it say they wished they did not.
But yes...you need to have balance, and people around you who you care about, and who care for you, are the strongest currency on the planet.

Life is the voyage.* We'll know the destination when we get there.

RE: Life: Quantity or Quality

For me it is Quality,* however quality in my case has nothing to do with thrills or living on the edge.

For me quality is spenting each day doing what I like, and enjoying my family and friends.

As for boating, for me the basics work just fine, the water is a great common denominator.* Boats big or small, fast or slow, cheap or pricey, can all provide their owners countless hours of QUALITY TIME.* Hmm, Not a bad boat name.

RE: Life: Quantity or Quality

kinda reminds me of the movie "the bucketlist"; if you havent seen it you should...

balance is important to me.
before i can take care of the family i gotta take care of me, healthy food, exercise etc.
and personally i feel an obligation to not risk my life just to please my ego, i have responsibilities to support family and help raising our kids.

boating is a recreational activity which for me goes hand in hand with spending lots of time together with my wife and kids.
and this precious together time is to me more valuable than conquering a mountain or sailing the seven seas.

The poem below was posted on the AGLCA forum and it made me think of this thread and TF. Thought you all might enjoy:

Now is all the time you own
And no man knows the hour
Just when the clock of life will stop
At late or early hour
The future's just a dream of hope
The past a distant link
Go cruising now my brother
It's later than you think

Great poem Tony and I'm going cruising very soon. Got a coat of oil on my cap rail several hours before it rained quite hard. Fell into the engine compartment while under way and banged my hip really hard. Going to the Doctor today and to the store. Later.
I think I'm OK.

RE: Life: Quantity or Quality

Thanks guys** ....very much. I got quite a number of bruises on my right arm, back and leg but my hip got the worst of it. Bone bruise they called it. I'm much better now. Guess I could have broken my hip so I'll take the bruises and try to smile. It was a big relief to realize I'd missed all the moving parts. That's the second time I've fallen through the salon hatches on Willy. Gotta stop that or you guys may be shy of flack.

Eric, glad to hear there doesn't appear to be permanent damage to your body.* I'm still nursing a twisted knee from last November.* So, how many else of us are nursing minor injuries?

Eric,* Bone bruises*are no fun, you have to keep weight off it for a while.

Once you are back in shape, I think you should rig some engine room cameras to your chartplotter. That way you can keep the hatch closed underway.

Take care* JohnP
