My fellow TF members, please keep your fingers crossed for me...

Why? Because I have a bonafide buyer interested in purchasing my home (see my signature below). They are currently renting it for the holiday's as a "try before you buy" opportunity. Based upon how things are going I'm expecting to receive an offer from them at some point in the near future. They've arranged for a home inspection next week so that's a very good sign, not to mention they flew all the way from Calgary, Canada to look out and "try" my home before they make the big move.

When the house is sold I will immediately begin the process of building my George Buehler designed Diesel Duck. Not 100% sure who the builder will be but, as of this moment, I'm leaning towards Bering Yachts out of their shipyard in Antalaya, Turkey. I will still give Bill Kimley of Seahorse Marine in China an opportunity to built it but based upon the build time at Seahorse, anywhere from two to three years, me thinks Bering Yachts is a better option for me personally since Alexei, one of the owners of Bering Yachts, told me that they could build it in 6 months but he wouldn't sign a contract stipulating that timeframe but he would, however, sign a contract stipulating that he would build it in 8 months.

This is very close but it's not the final final design. Actually, these drawings will be my layout with the exception that my boat will be 18" longer in LOA/LWL. An extra 6" in length will be added to the forward guest cabin and the remaining 12" will be spread between the aft cabin, ER/galley and salon area.

With a sizable penalty for missing that date? How is the time being counted, from signed agreement, from start of production?

Regardless sounds like it should be shorter than Seahorse, but 6 months or even 8 sound quite optimistic in an initial build, a build of a boat they're never previously built.

Not at that point yet but rest assured when I am all aspects of a solid contract will be covered.

Working with Jeff Merrill and Steve D'Antonio I feel I'll have a great team on my side and as far as building in a timely manner I'm confident that working with the Bering Yacht team will be an efficient and well thought out build. This is, of course, should I go the Bering Yacht route vs Seahorse Marine.

From the pln I see it will be a single engine right? What kind of engine do you plan to put in?

Yes, a single diesel engine with sail assist (a ketch rig similar to Don McIntyre's ICE and Jeff Appel's MOBY DUCK). As of this moment the engine is spec'd to be an M2 rated JD 4045TFM75.

Do you plan to use keel cooling or heat exchanger for your engine? From the plan looks like it will be keel cooling. I like very much the concept of keel cooling wonder why there is not more boat using it. Is there any downside of using it versus heat exchanger?

I too like the general aspect of keel cooling. Over my decades of boating, while they have been on the hard...I've seen old-time keel cooler radiator pipes on the sides of older craft's keels; most were wooden commercial boats. Wonder what new-technology has come up with for keel coolers??

At this time keel cooler discussion is pertinent for me. As, I am just about to take off both engines' heat exchangers and either get them restored (quite affordable if that can occur) or find new ones that match for installation. The new ones will cost some $3.5K + by time all is said and done. Keel cooler might be in the offing??

Sorry, don't mean to hijack this thread. I feel the boat design being shown and soon to be built is simply great!

That's awesome. Will you move to turkey for the time it takes to build? I heard that is common for large custom boats. What size?
