Mr. BK. Impressive BUT not one ER picture. Off my "to buy" list as a result...
The machinery described left me wanting ER pics too. I can`t believe the ER is such that they can`t put up a pic, my guess is slack brokers selling the sizzle over the steak, rather than boat shortcomings.

Why I love my old style Perkins, Or, Gardner, Ford Leman, and other slow turning engines!!:flowers::flowers:

Any engine which needs specialist knowledge, and probably a technician with a computer, to fix it should be avoided.

Correction noted.:blush: Sent you a PM on this rig. Perhaps the terms should have been 'Traditional' rather than conversion. :flowers:

Okay, now I recall reading-:banghead: while a new build, the main engine is not available as a new marketed engine. I didn't research where and when on the engine just that is is not any longer available as a new buy.

Not sure what you mean: the propulsion engine is in the middle of the galley! The genset seems to be under the salon floor. With only 3 feet draft there is probably not much headroom under the main deck.

Well I mean it looks tight on each side of the engine but like you said this must come from the draft, mine is 2 feet 8 inches draft so a bit the same.

Ours is 2'10" draft... still providing plenty of engine compartment room with dual hatches in center of salon sole. It's all in the design! :D

Being new to this I have a couple of questions on this steel boat, I know it’s been around for awhile and I even emailed the broker...It’s really a nice looking boat and has a lot going for it IMO..I would seriously consider it for myself, the thing that confuses me is the view from the pilot house. Of coarse I noticed the giant boom dead center of the pilot house..The wheel and controls are also dead center...Visiblity could have been improved simply by posistioning the wheel far right or left..So question one is ..was this incompetent design, or is sight line not that important in these types of boats..The pilot house sits so far back I looks like it would be difficult to see that far out anyway.
Secondly, could that boom be relocated or removed opening up the view out that center window..Thanks.

I think your prospective would change if you viewed the boat in person

I suspect, the crane was at the request of the owner. He wanted access port and starboard which limited the placement.

That thing bothers me as well and I also wonder how visibility is from there based both on this mast and boom and just generally on the angle from the windows over the dinghy and bow. I would want to get a good feel for that.
The only real problem for me would be the view over the bulwarks by the bow since I am not in love with the mast and boom there.
I would ask all of you about the usefulness of the mast and boom since I face the same question but without the view obstruction. See below picture.
While this mast does not hinder my view at all, I still have not discovered a compelling usefulness for it. It does not even have a boom and this was true when I bought it There is a spotlight mounted there that I can live without. I am taking my time thinking about it but am inclined to remove it and 'clear the deck'.
Would you keep it? Is the mast and boom on the boat in question really necessary/important? The stays are another irritation unless or until I can figure out an important reason that the mast is there. With a mast on the cabin roof in both cases to adorn with antennae and such I think one may be enough?

Thanks for your thoughtful response, FWIW I think the mast and boom look good on your boat, if visibility is not hindered why not leave it..I can’t speak to the practical nature of it, but some nice flags waving high all along the length would look cool...I followed along and waited with you while your boat was transiting..I hope it has been everything you hoped it would be, it certainly is beautiful..
 
Bill, I can see what you're saying about that mast on the forward deck. I'm one who believes in function over form. "Looks good" is not enough reason for something to be on my boat. Or my cars and trucks or home. No stainless anchors or chrome rode for me.

Interesting, only in that it demonstrates a massive need to impress (or mine is bigger/faster than yours) and could be the poster child for, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

I’m w GFC,
Looks wise it’s just a stick. If you remove it your fine sheer line will be more prominent. You’ll loose some windage .. probably a good thing. Putting a steading sail on the fwd end of most boats is at the wrong end. A tad bit of weight reduction would probably be a tad to the good.

Should be whacked but w little motive I’d have a hard time getting around to it.

Many things in design are done for foolish or the wrong reasons, but I had a hard time applying that logic to a vessel as beautiful as Klee Wyck . I have a good friend who is a marine architect, I will be discussing this with him, in the mean time I found this on a boat design site, interesting food for thought..

I am with you Gen and appreciate your response. That is why I am being slow to move. There are so many impressive design characteristics of this boat that I can understand, I am loath to discard one just because I do not understand it. Thus the question.
I can tell you that the stability of the ride of this vessel in seaways or wakes is absolutely stunning and unlike anything I have experienced before.

That sounds like a good reason not to mess with anything.

I am kind of a fan of a centerline mast, especially if fitted with a boom and hoist. The ability to pick up something heavy from either side of to boat can be invaluable sometimes.

You previously contacted the broker,why not ask him to have the owner explain the reasoning for the mast, in that position. It seems odd, doesn`t get that much better from the FB, discovering why it is where it is, if the owner knows, could be illuminating.
