While most owners don't need to be reminded to check their insurance policy prior to having work done on their boat I thought I post this reminder. When I decided last week to take La Tempesatd over to the local yard to have the stuffing box repacked (we could not get the previous packing to cool down) I knew I would be calling my insurance broker. One thing I noticed from the last time we used this well known yard was the contract along with its terms were now two full pages compared to one page last time we visited. Liability was limited to $25K based on gross negligence, so the bottom line is that the boat owner is on his/her own if something happens. We called Seacoast Marine Insurance (a broker) in San Diego and they worked their magic to get us additional coverage within a couple of a hours of our phone call. Even though we didn't haul out the boat I felt better knowing we were covered just in case. Hope this reminder helps someone out there.
