Hurricane Earl the Pearl

Anyone going to be effected by hurricane Earl this week?

We live near the coast of NJ (near Atlantic City) but we leave on Thur evening each week and drive to Rock Hall MD to our boat on the Chesapeake Bay. THerefore we will be driving away from the storm, 86 miles inland.

Coastal marine forecsast for southern NJ is calling for up to 13 ft waves on Fri evening. Right now they are more than 7 ft. Its slamming our coastal beaches and eroding the sand.

In New Bern, NC... Yes, a little.

We prepped Skinny Dippin' last Sunday. Hurricane tied with double lines and left our long-line out for Bud to run across the fairway. Dropped bimini, brought home the deck chairs, dinghy, grill, and taped up a few hatches. Shut off the fuel at the tanks and unplugged the power.

She's good to go.

Tryin to reason with hurricane season. Good luck boys, looks like Gaston might be of concern to the GOM come Monday, not to mention the one following. Come on November.

We're near Washington NC, about 20 miles up the Pamlico River from the sound. We're looking at some winds, etc but have a pretty well-protected floating dock marina. A few extra lines on the boat, dropping the bimini, and removing exterior window coverings is all we'll do for now.

I am in SE CT and we are expecting 40 -45 knot winds with gusts to 55.
I am double tied already, I'll add one fender and a line across a couple of slips to give me some mech advantage.
We have a Hurricane party planned for friday evening.

True, but the cone shows Gaston aiming right at or south of Cuba. When its gets to that slot between Cuba and SA, its ours; not to say the US Gulf Coast, but the GOM for sure. If I'm not mistaken, thats when the cutoff time for insurance policies comes into play.

Even though the path looks like it's going well east of SE CT our marina has decided to tie down tomorrow. That means all MUST use double lines, and they will take out all anchors and set them for every boat in a slip.

Whole lotta work for nothin! Dock hands where disapointed we did not get more (any)rain because they did not get a break from scrubbing bird poo off the docks on this labor day weekend.

*I'm just down the way and we hardly got any rain.* But had the storm gone just 40 miles to the west it would have been a different story!

We are way overdue in our area so each time we get missed is treated as a gift.

Hurricane season is just beginning, we have until November before things will calm down in our area.* Hold on to your hat.

Couldnt agree more. It has been so quiet around here lately I think that was a reminder that we are still in the spotlight when it comes to hurricanes. I think alot of the people in the area have moved here since the big storms in the late 90's and don't remember them...

I have admired your boat many times, very well kept! Catered cookout at our place tonight if you want to stop by, 6:30pm....seafood and byob...

Since Hazel in1954 nothing has caused so much destruction.

The boat is now called "Polly P." and now resides in Ocean Isle Beach NC.*

She is wonderful and I cannot live without her
