Don't think there is a carfax for boats but if documented, you can get a history of all owners from the Coast Guard. Title abstract.

Too funny that this post would come up now. I am in the middle of buying a boat that was never registered since it was built in 1999. You can not imagine what a headache that has created... It would have been great to see that the boat didn't exist as far as the CG is concerned, the closing has been delayed four times... so far. If the survey says "no documentation or registration papers were visible", that should be a clue :-)
