How many here boat with dogs?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
We boat with a Lab and she can outlast each of us. Indeed, sometimes I forget to take her for her "walk." She's a great dog, but she is becoming a bit heavy for us to lift. Not because she has put on weight but because we have lost a lot of muscle. Dogs are a must for us.

A good friends boat dog past away today. Timmy was a beautiful boy and was a friend to all. Was a very sad day for everyone's life Timmy was a part of. From a relatively minor accident, to a tragic ending.

Timmy was out with us all on the boats celebrating Australia Day. Timmy was trying to get from one boat to another. Timmy jumped from the marlin board of one boat to the other, Timmy slipped when he jumped, fell short of the second marlin board slamming into the side of it. The lower half of Timmy was in the water, he was pulled out and was whimpering before loosing consciousness for 10 minutes. Timmy regained consciousness but was not moving. The water police came and took him to the vet but despite rushing him with lights and sirens and providing him oxygen, Timmy's injuries were too severe and unfortunately died on the way. The vet had advised that the impact had ruptured Timmys bladder.

Very sad day for all involved.

Please take care of your boat dogs and don't allow them to jump around on wet surfaces.

:'-(

What a great dog. The only bad thing about a great dog is losing one. So sorry to hear of your loss.

Very sad that happened. Condolences...

They are aways hard to lose. So sorry.

Vale Timmy. Well done Water Police.
To those following "Medical Emergency While Cruising", the area was anything but remote, but a pet, not a human, received fast medical evacuation and assistance. It says a lot about our emergency services.

Such a sad story. Our condolences.

Yeah very sad. He wasn't my boy but I still got a bit sooky la la about it.

Really highlights the need for non slip surfaces and to be careful around wet surfaces that don't have non slip coatings.

Yes I agree, i was very impressed by the WA Water Police and their professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond without question in this incident. I will be sending a letter of thanks to the water police when I return to work tomorrow.

Greetings,
Awwww.....Any particular breed? In response to Mr. Marin's comment regarding canines not liking the smell of poop. Well, I've witnessed coprophagy numerous times. Just sayin' Mr. Marin.
What have you got against Corporal Phagy? I knew Corp Phagy. I served with Corp Phagy. And you Sir, are no Corporal Phagy.

Greetings,
Mr. Mahal. What I see is one pure bred, one mutt and one very attractive young lady.
Can't remember whether I've mentioned it in the 175 post thus far but Cruiser (North Carolina Redbone Coonhound) doesn't get seasick, "goes" on the foredeck with no problem, doesn't shed to any extent (I've yet to find a hair any longer than 3/8" on his body) and refreshingly enough doesn't drool (Dry mouthed hound). He came directly from the rescue shelter to the boat, spent 6 weeks on board and fitted right into the dirt house without skipping a beat. Wish I had a Picture I could post.

My Wheaten gets sea sick. No barfing, just panting and distress. Pity, but otherwise Wheaten are the optimum boat dog because of the no shedding.

It used to be that way with Lolly. Now she only pants and shakes the first few minutes of our trips. But she enjoys the boat more when the engines are off.
