My buddy who has been diving for 30 years uses a oiless pancake compressor for bottom cleaning, etc.
I use a scuba tank with a 50 foot hose.
One day when we were bored we made a air system with a dinghy foot pump and some hose feeding a snorkel.
They all worked.

That is priceless! Very simple and inventive.

Yes and Gary made us ALL try it out too. That was more priceless!!
But about 5 feet was the absolute limit...it got very hard to pump after that.
It was something to keep us occupied on a hot calm Block Island July day.

I love Block Island form the 1960's and try to stop into Mystic when back east.

Regarding the 5' you mention: That relate to depth under water or length of thin hose?

Could have been a combination of the two. We were using probably a 5/8 ID garden hose.
It got progressively harder to pump and at around 5 ft (we were only in 6 feet of water) I had a very hard time pumping the foot pump. I could barely supply the minimum air needed. We added a 2 gallon bucket as a "reservoir" but it was still hard to pump.
We called the devise "The Apparatus".
