How old are you?
I'm guessing 40.
You have many years of issues ahead of you.
There is no cure.
Sorry

Wisdom comes when your next boat is smaller than your last!!!

I have yet to find wisdom!!!

On a serious note, I have a narrow, simple 38' and find it excellent to travel long term with comfort for two, a bit tight with three or four. I have no intentions of going larger.

Good fuel economy, decent offshore, shallow draft, easy to single hand, easy to find dock space... Good mix of compromises.

Our first boat, we started out looking for an aluminum skiff to putt around Lake Union and the canals, maybe Lake Washington on a nice day. Ended up with a 32' Tollycraft flybridge Sedan, twin V8s.

When I saw the title of your post, I thought you had fallen and couldn't get up. That I could have helped with. 5footitis is incurable, so you are on your own on that one.

Not long after acquiring our 36' boat we started looking hard at 46' boats of the same make. Today, 16 years later, we are so glad we did not make the move to "bigger is better." The reason? We don't want to maintain one more inch of boat than we have now. We don't want to refinish and maintain one more inch of hand and caprail. We don't want to wax one more inch of hull and cabin. We don't want to maintain one more inch of teak deck. We don't want to maintain and repair one more inch of canvas.

Doing most of the work on our boat has cured us of foot disease, at least here at home.

Chester I don't think you are alone. A boat owner on another forum had similar feelings and is starting a "12 step program" for boaters on his forum. A portion of his post is below:

"Hi. My name is Vern (name changed to protect the poor guy) and I think I might be a boataholic."

Just need to test the waters here - During a 2-week trip to the states I ended up dropping a grand or so at West Marine for boat "essentials."

I got back and installed all that stuff and Saturday, while at the chandlery I dropped $100 bucks on fuel line, hose clamps, battery cable and battery terminals - Oh! and some really cool telltales... I have a new $100 battery on order that delivers on Friday. The boat already has 2 but 3 can't hurt, right?

I was on my boat Saturday morning. Not to sail but to install a piece of equipment. A big rainstorm came through and I stayed on board and played cards with my son while it passed. I started planning the interior refit that I didn't know I needed. I'd also like to install Solar right away and while I am at it completely rewire the boat. LED position lights would be nice...

I sailed 2 weekends ago for 2 hours. Next weekend I am sailing in someone else's boat on Saturday and on Sunday I am installing batteries and fuel lines. I might get out Sunday afternoon.

Oh, I am still waiting for the ($1200) bill for the bottom paint and new chain plates we installed while I was in the states...

So does $2400 bucks for 4 hours of sailing over 5 weekends indicate I have a "problem."

Please share! You are among friends.

Call me crazy but I'd only buy a boat with cash, therefore, I'm immune to 2footitis

Ok, Murray... You're Crazy! There now, feel better?? - LOL

I also am a cash guy for toys such as boats, classic cars etc... I too have no detailed 2 footitis or any other footitis for that matter. However, and happily so... I do have big case of boatitis, and, I love it!

If I see it, want it, can have it, and feel good about cashing it... I get IT!

If you are not familiar with the story of B'rer Rabbit and the Tar Baby, you should google it. Boats are like that.

And don't think you can wait it out. We held off for over 30 years. Then one day, when I wasn't looking, the Tar Baby reared its head and "BANG" there we were with a new boat.

The disease is terminal, but pleasant. Enjoy.

If there is a cure, keep it the hell away from me! I would rather die happy than in a small boat.

Let's see, so far we've gone from 19' to 32' to 37' over five years - oh man, we're about doubling our boat size every five years. By 2019 we'll be in a 74, by 2024 a 148... Oh this is worse than I thought.
