We just purchased a Krogen Manatee 36 ft trawler that we are naming Mango Mama. You may still be able to see the listing at*http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1987/Kadey-Krogen-Manatee-2289092/Madisonville/LA/United-States The people we dealt with could be helpful to others.

We had a few last minute details to resolve that delayed the closing by two days. The previous lender decided to back out since they felt there weren't enough Manatees on the market to get a good market value. So we were scrambling to get a lender lined up. I can highly recommend Joni Geis with Sterling Finance at*http://boatlenderusa.com/

We decided to have the boat delivered from Louisiana to Bradenton FL and found a number of qualified skippers on *BoatUS.com at *http://www.boatus.com/procaptains/adv_search.asp

Captain Jeff Lewis at*http://www.onwatchyachtdelivery.com/ will be the first to operate Mango Mama. It seems weird to be collecting supplies and tools for someone else to be on her.

We decided on Pantaenius insurance with Mike Warren who is also president of the Krogen owners Association. We checked to make sure that the delivery skipper would be covered by the policy and Mike had a clause added. The underwriters questioned the survey statement that limited the boat to 15 miles offshore. The surveyor quickly corrected the survey to 250 miles offshore but that delayed the insurance binder. We missed the cutoff for the funding transfer on the scheduled closing date by five minutes. Then the blizzard hit the lender's home office on Tuesday which delayed us another day. Finally the funding happened on Wednesday.

Pantaenius appears to be a good insurance solution with worldwide coverage and solid backing. Their rates are much lower than our tried-and-true BoatUS with better coverage.*http://www.pantaenius.us/

The broker, Greg Whelton, of Whelton Marine at*http://www.yachtworld.com/wheltonmarine/wheltonmarine/ was very helpful in coordinating all this and keeping the seller informed.

I also have Russell Coleman of Colemar Marine Services in Covington, LA, going through the boat mechanically to make sure she's in tip-top running condition.

We feel very fortunate to have had the help of some good people to bring Mango Mama into our lives. We're excited to have her nearby soon with plans to make her our home on the water and to enjoy the beauty and adventure of cruising.
