Get out while you can.

When I told my next door neighbor at my (new to me) marina that I wanted to keep my boat in the water as late in the season as possible, he told me I should haul out by no later than the 2nd or third week in October or there may not be enough water to get to the hoist. Here's some pics from today (I got hauled out last week, thank God). Yep, that's dirt under the docks. Tip-Sea a little tipsy from resting on the bottom

The marina is in Gibraltar, Michigan, where the Detroit River empties into Lake Erie.

Nope. From here I can go west (upstream) all the way to Chicago or east (downstream) all the way to Buffalo, NY without encountering a lock or a dam.

It is all about the west wind moving the water down lake. The gales of fall are no joke.

All you need is a clam bucket and a rake.

We get all your water here in Buffalo when the wind blows out of the west. No problems here with shallow water!
