Brazen outboard theft from Alameda
https://vimeo.com/169744976
From SA:"Once again there has been a rash of outboard motor thefts in Alameda Marina’s dry storage area. Even though this has been an issue for at least 5 years, the marina management and ownership has refused to do anything about it. After I got my trolling motor stolen from my fishing boat 2 years ago, I installed a motion activated security camera on my radar arch. The majority of sailboats in the storage area have had an outboard stolen so they now take them home when the boat is not in use. This isn’t possible with a powerboat that has remote steering and throttle.
The accompanying video was captured by my camera over a 2 week period. As you can see, in broad daylight the thieves were able to come in and take not only the trolling motor but also the 250HP Yamaha main outboard. Note the time and date stamp in the upper left corner of the video (full screen in HD).
As everyone knows, the owner of Alameda Marina, Bill Poland - Urban development maven (his website’s description) and Bay West Group, are trying to convert the marina into luxury condos. It appears that their negligence in securing the property is intentional. The more trouble they can attract to the marina, the stronger their argument is for development. It seems that they are complicit in their non-action.
The damage done to my boat will cost over $41,000 to repair (insurance will cover $25K). A group of boat owner victims are working with an attorney to recover deductible amounts and possibly loss of use compensation from Alameda Marina. Any interested party should reach out to AlamedaMarinaVictims@gmail.com if they wish to be included.
Due to my video, one of the suspects is currently in custody. At least one of the other suspects knows that the police are looking for him. If anyone has information regarding the whereabouts or identity of any of the suspects, please contact Sgt. Klaus at the Alameda Police Dept (510) 337-8340
Please share this video with as many people in the marine community as possible."

That is amazing! I'm guessing that they did not recover either engine?
Sad state of affairs...

You haven't bought a large 4 stroke motor lately? We bought an ETec 115 last year. $12k just for the engine and installation. I noticed the thief uing a cutting wheel to sever the controls. I can easily believe the number!

Ya gotta love stooped crooks. They were nice enough to back their vans right up to the boat so the cops could get a good look at the license numbers.
I bet the cops loved watching that video.

It looked to me that they got two large motors and one small one. Note the second large motor put in the car after the small one. It took them several trips to do it and they used two different cars or at least license plates.
7REU051 and 7SXB263
Looked like they used Ryobi battery operated tools. Good choice. I like mine.

Strange how the big guy could not stop closing the tailgate then needing to re-open over and over.

You do accept that $12k if much less than $41k, right?
And just because it has yamy stickers on it doesnt mean its a 4 stroke.

Back in the 60's it was soooo much easier to steal an out board engine... loosen two twist clamps, off hook cable/pulley steering, off hook throttle/clutch cables, pull gas line clamp off engine side. My brand new 20 hp Johnson was stolen off my 13'3" Boston Whaler in less than a minute real time! Turns out it was the gas dock attendant that did it. He was soon arrested stealing other ob's in the area. Mine ob was history. Insurance paid well... I ended up with 40 hp used Johnson beauty on my polished Whaler. Thanks for the upgrade, thief - you Big Fat F'n Creep!
Obviously by the fast forward video (probably actually took them 25/30 minutes to complete the theft) we can see that thieves need to work much harder these days in order to go to jail. Sign of the times... 21st Century - Big Fat F'n Creeps!

It's still easy if there is no security.
And here is why the case against them is strong...I quote from their website:
Marina gates electronically locked at night
Nightly security patrol of all marina areas
After hours tenant-only card key access
I see long delays and ultimately settlements. I imagine their lease says strongly that they have no responsibility. That doesn't cover gross negligence or fraudulent advertising. Now I'd also bet it says you must use arbitration.

Thats a yamaha 4 stroke 250 hp. I have the 200 hp version of it and the exact same 9.9 hi thrust. The 250 lists for 23k. Add anothe 2 k for ca sales tax and you have 25k . Not sure what installation costs, but the bay area is not known for cheap labor. Maybe 41 is high, but maybe not that if the guys transom was ground out and needs to be replaced... it all adds up quickly, especially in that boat basin.
