Well, speaking of big hairy things, I understand that Teddy Roosevelt thought the Grizzly should have been the American national symbol instead of the Bald Eagle.( you see Pete, the last two posts are a clever way of shutting down the thread by a complete hijack into irrelevancy.)

This diversion is much more interesting. I think/hope both are protected by law from the thread subject. Bald eagles just look bald. Adults have white head feathers, juveniles are one color all over, for camouflage while learning survival in the wild.

Wifey B: I knew nothing, nada, zip, zero about Eagles of any hair style before our trip to Alaska.

Wifey B: Speaking of the Bald Eagle, (oh watch this segue), why do states have state flowers and birds and trees and everything else imaginable. I understand why sports teams have their team beer and team car and team soft drink, and team airline. They get paid for it. But the birds and flowers don't pay and the typical list goes on and on and on.

NC has 41 state symbols. Not enough to have a state flower or tree, have to have a state carnivorous plant, Christmas tree, tree, flower and wildflower. And why the heck a state frog, salamander, insect, reptile, mammal, marsupial, shell, mineral, rock and stone.

FL only has 34 symbols, but then they're not as old a state.

You won't need a gun on a boat if you just have the right anchor and enough chain.

One gun or two, the age old TF debate.

Peter Swanson posted that there is a gun law presentation at the Kent Island (Md) Trawlerfest this fall by maritime attorneys (Lochner Law Firm, P.C. Annapolis. on firearms rule, regulations/laws around the great loop. I presented in Rivera Beach this winter so had an opportunity listened to some of their presentation. It was very, very good and thorough as it could be considering the constant state of flux in firearms rules/regulations/laws about the county. They had a matrix handout that was a "snapshot" compilation of the laws and requirements to comply by the different type of firearms (pistol, rifle, shotgun), ammunition, and possesssion (carry, possess, transport, concealed). This matrix also had what was required to comply with permitting. This was strictly factual based without any judgement as to pro or con. It was an real eye opener especially as two states changed theirs while he was presenting! If this is a burning issue for you and you wish to avoid potential legal complication I would highly recommend attending or getting a consult from them @ WWW.boatinglaw.com

Good referral. Add a couple of caveats to what the lawyer says is legal and not. Their statement has a life of only one day. Now for practical purposes they know pending legislation and would note it.

Also, some cities have rules so it's not all state laws to consider.

Last, you can still have trouble even if the law is on your side. There are people in law enforcement who don't know the intricacies. Just because the law is on your side and a lawyer can get you out of the jam or even someone with more knowledge in local law enforcement can doesn't mean you haven't had your trip delayed and/or have to spend money on a lawyer.

In Mommie-fornia you can buy Mini-14's all day, they shoot the same round as the evil black so called assault rifle.

In SS for boat owners! And a folding stock is also available.

For a few bucks you can purchase plans for a little part that is EZ to create that can be left in the silverware draw.

A few min and the Mini 14 can play Rat a Tat Tat, instead of just bang bang.

Legal to own , but not to have installed, although with out a test firing who would know?

I must say that they have always been courteous, asked if I had any weapons aboard and I told them yes, a 12 ga shotgun. They were more concerned with the Chihuahua than anything else. In one instance it turned out that the boarding officer went to high school with my daughter. Even so I hate being profiled.
Do you think it's the French Poodle or the Mexican Chihuahua that is the cause of all the boardings?

Bald eagles aren't bald (bare headed). They have white feathers on their heads. Vultures are usually bald.

And... Dauphin Island, AL is now proclaimed The Sunset Capital of Alabama. It works for tourist advertising and yet another friendly thread diversion as well. 👍

Wifey B: Don't you just love some of these self proclaimed titles? We're the Sunshine state so coupled with Dauphin Island we could start putting a calendar together. Oh, and NC was the moonshine state (ok I made it up but that is where it was run a bunch), we need a star state. Let's see what else. Dark. I think we should pick a state where the people are always in the dark.

Arkansas use to be the Land of Opportunity, now they're the Natural state. Does that mean they're a nudist state now? Clothing optional state. Cool.

Corniest award goes to "If you're looking for a merry land, go to Maryland!".

Oregon is "We Love Dreamers; Things Look Different Here." I double checked to see if that was put in after they legalized weed but it wasn't.

I like VA and W VA with "Virginia is for Lovers" and W VA is "Wild and Wonderful." My kind of places.

I met 2 people from the Mexican town Chihuahua at Istanbul airport during an El Al cancelled flight delay. Who knew the breed is eponymously named after a town? Other dogs are named after locations too, eg the Rottweiler.

The thread is about concealed carry on a 4000 mile interstate and intra country trip.

Regarding Panacea: One cannot just say: "I carry, and I will wherever I go on a loop trip." It will be difficult to continue on the loop from in the slammer. Not saying you will get caught. BUT if you do..... it's all on you for not abiding by the local laws.

The real issue is standardized federal qualifications that congeal all the states differing, confusing, downright nasty rules for concealed carry. Not that you can't have a gun (so far) but concealed carry should be the same wherever you are or live or visit. So far that ain't so. IIRC only 28 states have reciprocity. The rest don't.

Heres a link to check where you are legal to carry depending upon your state of residence.
Never said I would "carry" were ever I go was inquiring about laws and regs for fire arms on boats always abide by local laws.
Hope this clears it up for you.
Thinks for the link
