Hmmmm- I don't suppose Active Captain has public transportation available at said marina listed?? Maybe Jeffrey would consider it. Gulfport/ Biloxi marinas are serviced by CTA (Coast Transit Authority). I've never used it- but would want to know it was available if I were a transient at the marina.

Daily/multi-day passes are the way to travel using the water taxis in Venice where powered vehicles and bicycles are prohibited. Otherwise, walk!

Users can add comments/reviews about facilities, anchorages, etc. on Active Captain. All one has to do is submit a comment about the availability of transportation at such-and-such a facility and if it passes muster it will be added to the information about that facility.

And the facilities themselves can include transportation information if they want to in the data they submit to Active Captain about their facility and its features and amenities.

Steve, I once took a bus from Tidewater Marina in Portsmouth into Norfolk. My late wife wanted to go to the zoo. the bus was nearly empty. I asked the driver to be sure to let us off where we transfer to the zoo bus. By the time we went under the tunnel the bus was packed, and it was pandemonium. The bus driver turned around and said, "why go to the zoo? Why don't you just ride around with me all day."

Now, you can't buy that kind of experience.

A lot of reviewers mention proximity to services and then also transportation available.

Every marina has a Services/Transportation field for this type of thing. It's most often used to describe bicycles, courtesy cars, and taxi numbers, but if there's good public transportation, I've often seen it mentioned too. Cocoa Village Marina and Vero Beach City Marina come to mind as good examples - I've used the bus in both places myself and know I've used the info listed.

Also for those who anchor, there's a lot of information regarding the marinas dinghy dock and service to those using it, plus the transportation portion. Then if you're left with a key question, check the marina's website as the link is provided, and/or call. While there are a few marinas not friendly to those who anchor, most are.

Sometimes you'll find some very nice surprises. I haven't found a marina yet that can't give you some good advice on how to see sites and provision. Their livelihood depends on it. You're not the first to need it. We've very seldom had to rent cars. Marina del Rey and Los Angeles is a place we did. Rentals there as low as $11/day. Shocked us. There's also the country version of Uber. It's "there's a retired gentleman, Hubert, who would probably drive you around. Let me call him."

To me a feature many overlook on Active Captain is the ease with which you can get more information. You get 90% of what you need there and narrow things down and then very convenient to get the other 10%.
